Hi Janis,

JK> > Yes, and sometimes they see things that you might not pick up on. I
JK> was > having major problems with it, more than I was aware of, but
JK> Steve saw > some and let the doctors know.

JK> That is great to hear, and important as well. And I know what you mean
JK> about 'not picking up on" something like that ... I don't realize for

That's where it is really nice to know that someone else knows.

JK> instance when the heat is getting to me.. Ron will though, and he'll
JK> point it out to me and I'll say, oh rats.. <laugh>

And then you get out of the heat & get a drink of water? A few years
ago I was to be the labor coach for our next door neighbor. Her water
broke in the early (about 5:30) morning of the day after Steve and I'd
had a military ball. Baby came about 1:30 or 2 pm after an emergency C
section (I was in the OR with her) and Steve picked me up abotu 4:30 for
a Sunday School class gathering. About 7:30 he suggested we head home
as he said I looked tired. About the time he mentioned it, it hit me
how tired I was. I'm glad I had him to get me home for some rest.

JK> > So am I! My energy level has stayed decent so far; I've had a bit
JK> of > nausea a couple of times but we're wondering if that could have
 JK> come
 JK> > from other sources.

JK> Yes, it sounds like your energy level has been ok :) Don't worry
JK> about answering mail if it starts to get to you, though, ok? I know
JK> things can change as time goes on with this kind of thing. I'm glad
JK> the nausea hasn't been to bad either.. My son did eventually take some
JK> other medication to help with that, and it worked for him.

I'm not worried and the other folks here know not to worry about my
(lack of) presence. Steve can always do an update. I'm hoping the
nausea won't occur very often or be really bad but I'm not having chemo
which should help keep it in line. Our "mini celebration" this week was
over to a Mexican restauant we'd not been to in a while; we both ended
up taking about half our meal home. I had the especial chicken burritos
(loaded with everything!) and Steve had chicken fajitas. They only gave
him a couple of tortillas so he made some more this morning to go with
his left overs.

JK> > freezer last November and December in anticipation of problems.
JK> But, > I've still got a stretch to go and we may dig deeply into them

JK> It's great that you have them prepared, that probably took some
JK> "organizing". We joke with Lauren that she inherited Ron's family's

Some prior looking thru cook books, pulling out favorites that could be
done in bulk and trying a few new things. We always taste tested a
meal's worth, figuring if we didn't like something, it would take top
priority in geting eaten. (G)  The main thing was planning the cooking;
I tried to do at least a couple of days per week of meal prep. All in
all, it took about 4 weeks but I got it done.

JK> organizational "skills"... When Lauren was little she'd start planning
JK> her birthday parties 6 mos. in advance.. and I'd say to her, Wow, it's
JK> only January (she was born in July <g>).. Later in talking with Ron's

What day in July? Mine is in July also. (G)

JK> cousin, I found out she is the exact same way and so are a number of
JK> others in his family.. It was noticible to Ron and I because we're a
JK> little more laid back <grin> That particular gene that some of them

In some ways I'm very organised (geting reeady for moves); other ways
I'm very laid back.

JK> > Rachel called last week; her family has had a
JK> > touch of flu and strep--I'm here doing this and can't go out to make
JK> > chicken soup for them. I can't also go up to take care of my
 JK> parents.

JK> Poor kid.. this is the time of year, no doubt.. hopefully getting it
JK> now will protect them some later.

Let's hope so. I got a flu shot in November so I've got some protection.

>> That's really neat! I hope you have a great time!

JK> > We should; a friend in Berlin introduced us to their music about 16
JK> > years ago. I think I've got all of their Christmas CDs.

JK> I noticed they have a good number of them :)

I'm not sure how many but I like the fact they do a lot of less often
heard pieces.

JK> > Yes, but did your kids go on a "we want white bread" spell? Our
JK> girls > did, first in their early school years, then a bit in high

JK> Probably not, because when they were young, I made bread for
JK> sandwiches with unbleached white flour.. I'd always throw in 1/4 cup
JK> of wheat germ in with each cup of flour.. that and some soy flour for
 JK> added protein.

The old Cornell mix. (G) I did the mix of whole wheat and white before
the girls were born. By the time they came along, we were using all
whole wheat (and other whole grains).

JK> > "cured" them the first time was after we packed out for going to
JK> > Germany, we had to buy school breakfasts and lunches for a few days.
JK> > After several days of eating the white bread, they decided they
liked JK> the > whole wheat better.

 JK> Hehe.. that's good.

It worked, in a back door sort of fashion.

JK> > Getting out on their own after high school made
JK> > them realise they liked whole wheat bread better--when they did't
JK> have > me around to make it. Rachel's husband was a hard convert but
 JK> he's
 JK> > coming around.

JK> Ron's not a big fan of whole wheat flours either, though I try to
JK> throw it in more and more recipes when I can. I figure if I work into
JK> it as you mentioned, it will help <grin>

Pretty soon he will be a whole hearted convert. Steve seems to have hit
a stall with the pork acceptance thing.

JK> > I'm going to have to get me a copy of that book. (G) We had various

JK> Yes, it's great - You won't be sorry :) The first half of the book is
JK> very very damning of our industrialized food supply and people with
JK> problems should know about what they're really eating.. especially
JK> these days when every other day we hear about Mad Cow disease, ecoli,

What's the ISBN number?

JK> > influence our decision, IIRC, "The Supermarket Handbook" (I'm pretty
JK> > sure that was the name of it.), "More With Less" and "The Deaf Smith
JK> > County Cookbook" were all early influences, with a bit from
 JK> "Laurel's > Kitchen" as well.

JK> I'll have to check them out :)

Bunch of good ones there; I've got lots more on the shelves.

>> were living.. Ron did find work as a manager in the hospital field,
>> but it's not what he went to school for <grin>.

JK> > When we got married, Steve was working building fiberglass pleasure
