I was taught the one way but picked up the other out of convenience.  No
comments from my parents when they saw the change. They'd probably
gotten all the comments made when I went back to using my left hand
after being forced to switch when younger.

Any tree with a shallow root system can do that; we saw it quite often
in HI. No ice storms but wind and rain with a shallow water table.
