Which explains it.  I was never much of a steakhouse type.  Not that I'd
mind, but if I'm going out I want stuff I can't cook myself.

Standard procedure for a cat.  They know better.  They know you know they
know better, and they wait for you to call them on it.  One of mine likes
to get into the sink and clean out some of the dishes, provided they had
something interesting in them.  This same cat likes ham fat, so you and she
might get along ... if you could convince her to come out of hiding.

Yep - they are.  They just move off and wait to mooch when you're not
around.
