===================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Director's office was to be. There were class rooms, rest rooms and
RH> all other needed rooms but nothing specifically for the Director to
RH> use. We moved to HI shortly; the new building was built while we were
RH> gone but we never got a tour to see if they'd included a Director's
 RH> office.

NB> Someday maybe you'll find out. :) They might have decided that it
 NB> wasn't needed, though.

I had 8 years as SS Director at that church; an office is needed.

NB> and NB>> when he'd show it to me, I'd ask things like, "how do you
 NB> get the NB>> groceries in?" (G)

RH> Especially if they can be brought in under shelter. This is only the
RH> utility room to a few of steps in the family room to the kitchen (thru
RH> that narrow way). Nice on days when the weather is bad or cold.

NB> Indeed. :) As I recall, once when I asked that question, he had
NB> designed things such that the garage was on one side of the (very
NB> large) house, and the kitchen was on the other side! One might have
NB> been able to bring things in under cover, but would have had to
 NB> traipse through
NB> the living room, dining room, maybe more (maybe a library and/or music
NB> room?), to get to the kitchen...

Very illogical. Most of the stuff is for the kitchen anyway so it makes
sense to off load from the car as directly to the kitchen as possible.
Stuff meant for other rooms could be set in the next room while
groceries are put away, then distributed where needed. It is nice when
baggers put all non kitchen stuff together & nothing else but that's a
rare occaision.

NB> Our house here has a detached garage, and we park in the driveway
NB> anyway, so we always have to deal with weather. But our usual

Beats having a car port some distance away from the house; you are
closer than we were in HI. In Germany and at Fort Devens, we had no
shelter but could usually park fairly near the entrance. One nice thing
about being stationed in Berlin was the commissary delivery service,
even tho it was an extra cost. We lived on the 7th floor and for
several months, the elevator was out of service. They even delivered
then. (G)

NB> NB>> thing was there was no sink in the workroom, until I asked him
NB> how the NB>> librarian was going to clean the library paste off her

RH> Good thinking. But now, how many librarians repair books & how many
RH> send them out for repair? (G) Still, to have a sink available after
RH> handling dirty/dusty books and magazines is nice. News print doesn't

NB> If it's a big enough library, there's probably a staff that takes care
NB> of repairs... but this was a more like a town library, not all that
NB> big, probably just have a librarian or two with a few aides, and not

My mom was school librarian for about 18 years, then town one for
another 16. At school, she had assistants but they all kept busy enough
that books were sent out for most repairs. The town library was part of
the 4 county BOCES system; the main library in Binghamton took care of
repairs & such like. BTW, my mom got her Master's in library science at
SUC Geneseo.

NB> have much of a budget for repairs... And, yes, cleaning up after
NB> handling dusty/dirty books and newsprint was the other aspect of it
NB> that I mentioned to him. His father's mom was a high school
NB> librarian, so he should (ok, at least COULD) have thought about it on
 NB> his own... (G)

Sometimes the obvious is easily overlooked.

NB> NB>> make it the best it could be... it was for a building that they
NB> were NB>> really planning to build some day, and the "customer" said
NB> that he'd NB>> use my son's plan if he had a choice... once the
 NB> funding came in... NB>> :)

RH> So did the funding ever come in for the building?

NB> Not that I ever heard about... at least not while he was still there.
NB> And I suspect that it was used as an assignment for many more classes
NB> as well... dunno if anyone else took the time like he did to really
 NB> talk
 NB> to the "customer"...

So he probably stood out in the "customer's" mind, even after he'd gone
on.

RH> ... OH NO! Not ANOTHER learning experience!

NB> I keep having days like that... ;)

I know the feeling all too well. Some days are nothing but learning
experiences. (G)
