Which I guess is why I like pea soup, which was one of the
first soups I actually enjoyed, even before I could get
past the fertilizery taste of peas. I think that when Ian
was told that our soups more often serve the purpose of a
main course, whereas in France they're more likely to be
an appetizer, he sort of understood.

I wonder if availability of booze is a factor in the decision
of whether to charge for drinks at buffets. 'cause there are
two competing concepts here - if you can sell beer and wine,
you don't want to encourage free fluid intake; and if you
don't, you do. In the first case, soda and stuff would displace
stomach space that could be filled with high-profit alcoholic
beverages, and in the latter, free liquid would take the place
of stuff that cost more to provide.

I haven't been to a Chinese buffet (or, I think, a buffet of
any kind) in over a year, I am proud to say.

Deep Fried Butter Oats Prawns
cat: shellfish, cereal
servings: 4

600 g fresh prawns
2 ts Tapioca Flour
1 chopped red chilli
- OR 2-3 chopped bird's eye chilli (chili padi) 
- I used red chillies cos I forgot to get chili
- padi from the market
4 sprigs curry leaves
4 Tb butter/margarine
6 Tb fried oats
2 pn sugar
2 pn salt

Clean prawns and cut off antennae and tail. Sprinkle tapioca 
flour over the cleaned prawns and mix evenly.

Prepare fried oats - add in oats in a hot wok and fry til the o
ats turn a shade darker. Remove and set aside.

Heat up oil in a pot enough for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, 
deep fry prawns until golden brown. (Be careful of oil splattering!) 
Set aside.

Place butter/margarine in a hot wok, add in red chillies/chilli 
padi and curry leaves. Fry til fragrant.

Add in prawns, sugar and salt. Finally add in the fried oats and stir 
till even.

Serve! And tuck in! :)
