Ärende: bag ladies
==================
Hi Nancy,

NB> at this one. Different NB>> stores, even in the same company, can
 NB> have different policies. :)

RH> That's interesting; you would think on issues like baggers, cahiers
RH> and all, the policy would be the same, system wide.

NB> I suspect that the differences in policy are related to size of store
NB> and/or need to double up on staff...

Could be but then, too, it could just be a manager's decision. Each
store manager gets to decide what he thinks will work best for that
store, based on certain corporate guidelines.

 RH> All the military
RH> commissaries are under one umbrella, the Defense Commisary Agency
RH> (DeCA) so Carol's Navy commissary is run the same way our Army one is.
RH> There are varients in what's stocked in each one tho. We miss the
RH> little nook of Hawaiian goods (tea, macadamia nuts, etc) that we got
RH> out in HI; there's no real GA regional stocking at this one.

NB> I can understand that... I'd imagine that stocking would in part
NB> depend on what was readily available either locally or easily shipped
NB> in... but also on manager policy...

Yes, we do get some local stuff because it's available but it's hard for
small outfits to compete with the big corporations. There are a lot of
niche growers that would love to have their stuff in the commissary but
just don't have the marketing clout the big ones have.

NB> NB>> So he did get accepted there. :) And now you start your
NB> transition NB>> back to civilian life... ;)

RH> Acceptance was received by e-mail Wed. night. He's been pinging off
RH> the walls ever since. He goe even bouncier when Rachel called to let
RH> us know she (and the kids) will be out next month for his retirement
 RH> ceremony.

NB> (smile!) I know you all will be enjoying each other's company, too.
 NB> :)

Yes, Rachel has seen some of Savannah before (David is from Warner
Robbins.) but I don't think she's gone to any of our favorite places to
eat. We'll also have Steve's parents and my older brother in for the
retirement ceremony, don't know how long they will stay. We're thinking
of going over to the German restaurant we found in Hinesville for a meal
the day of the actual ceremony.

RH> As for the transition back to civilian life--we've sort of
RH> started it with this assignment. More of my medical care (beyond
RH> basic issues) is done with civilian doctors off post; we're shopping
RH> for more groceries at stores other than the commssary (partly because
RH> this one doesn't carry nearly all we like) and so on. This has been a
RH> good assignment for making the transition.

NB> So you've been able to ease yourself back into non-military things.
 NB> :)

In some ways, yes, a bit. We still have to show an ID card to go home
(living on post), get most of our meds at the military clinic, etc. But
in a few weeks, that will all change. Steve will actually have to
decide what to wear every day instead of putting on a uniform M-F. (G)

NB> but it'll save weight. NB>> Are you limited as to how much weight you
NB> are allowed to move? Or is NB>> it just a cost thing?

RH> We do have a weigh limit but it's also a matter of our room on the
RH> book shelves for such things. Steve will be getting a lot more books
 RH> in the next 3 years. (G)

 NB> True enough... (G)

And, there's the possibility of my taking some classes also. I can get a
Diploma in Women's Studies at a very reasonable cost.

NB> RH>> Yes, from this echo, no less. I've also got other bags with
 NB> RH>> histories. (G)
 NB> NB>> Probably we all do. I know I have quite a few... ;)

RH> Make a quilt top if you've enough of them?

 NB> Nah... they're all in use... ;)

I've got some that I'm not using (at the moment). (G)

NB> ... How did a fool and his money get together in the first place?

Good question.
