It was, of course, the pure ground, dried chilies, which is how the
ethnic Indian half of the Fijian population prefers to buy it, so they,
like you, can mix their own.  Pre-mixed blends are sold in Indian
stores here, but under the name of chicken (or beef, vegetable, etc)
garam masala.

Which was same in the large can that you gave me on that occasion, and
I brought back to Australia.  Even the quarantine inspector who opened
the can and sniffed it said it was wonderful.  It made the best grilled
chicken wings, ever!

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Looed Chicken Wings
 Categories: Chicken, Loo, Asia-n, Wings
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      2 c  Water
      2 c  Sauce- soy, dark
    1/2 c  Wine- dry sherry
      5 sl Ginger- green, 1mm thick
      2    Spice- star anise flowers
      1 tb Sugar
      2 lb Chicken- wings
           Oil- sesame
 
  Bring to a boil the water, soy sauce, sherry, ginger, star anise and
  sugar. Simmer as many chicken wings as you wish in this fluid for
  about 20 minutes. Cool in the liquid.
  
  Serve cold with a little sesame oil on top of the wings. Do not throw
  out the looing sauce because it can be used again and again; simply
  add a little more of the flavour you wish. Refrigerate!!!
  
  Serves 4 to 6.
