Hi Carol,

 > CS> I'm also looking at a 'troops to teachers' plan they have here. You

 > I've heard of it. You would probably do a good job of teaching based on
 > your Navy back ground.

CS> It's a possible! I've saved the info but for now am hoping for the
 CS> one I really want.

I know, we're doing that with the housing search. May have to settle
for not quite what we really want for a bit until we can get what we do
really want.

 > CS> Hehe prices on contractors here have gone up, not down. They are

 > Sad, but they have to make a living as well. In that case, you're best

CS> If I get the job, I can do the island soon. Upper cabinets will need
CS> to wait but we can work with that at need. If I take the book shelf
CS> at the end of the sofa and relocate it, I can put the china cabinet
CS> there by the kitchen entrance. Close enough to still be convient to
CS> get at all the dishes.

You will have a start a least. And, nothing will be set in stone so that
it can't be redone better, later.

More > storage overall, much better kitchen and other little niceitys.
Now we > just have to wait a few weeks until we get an offer.

CS> Will it be hard to get the bigger unit with no kids? Is the smaller

It depends on how many families with kids want that housing area. The
housing office must have felt we had a good chance of getting it or they
wouldn't have even let us look at a 3 BR unit & put it as our #1 choice.
It's the only area with dishwashers and not a town house construction.
The housing office also told us about when they notify people of their
decision--about 6 weeks before requested move in date which would put it
about the end of this week or early next.

CS> one at least well laid out and with room for a china hutch of some
 CS> sort?

The lay out is sort of OK--there are 2 full baths when one and a half
would have been a better choice. But, there's no linen closet and even
more of a joke of a coat closet than we have here. The pantry was also
pitifully small. We thought that we could get some of these plastic
drawer units or something on that order for more kitchen storage of
smaller things. Our big old buffet would be way too big for the space
allotted for the combined living/dining area. We would probably put
that and our big dining room table into storage & get a small dinette
set. Probably some of our living room furniture would go into storage
as well. BUT we've not exhausted all housing options yet.

 > We may have a minor cold snap or two but nothing like this past week
 > end. We missed the snow (barely) but had quite a number of severe
 > weather warnings.

CS> We got snow but it didnt stick on the roads. More of a dusting that
CS> lingered a few days. We are supposed to get colder tomorrow or so and
CS> a few days in the 45 range then that I bet is the last of it for here.

We're supposed to get a bit colder, with rain starting on Thursday until
at least Sunday. Hopefully then it will warm up for good. BTW, we found
a "Mother Earth News" with write ups on how to do small space (as in
container, raised bed, etc) gardenint at Lowes. One suggestion was to
use a bag of soil just laid flat and opened along a side for a
contained, "instant" gardening bed.

 > CS> Like my kitchen in Hawaii ;-) Cant open fridge and oven at same time.
 > CS> Had they swapped the sink and oven, it would have been better.

 > That took too much thinking. (G)

 CS> Hehehe that it did.

We've seen enough of that sort of operation.

 > > Is she making meat balls? (G)

 > CS> Not yet but only because I have no ground beef!

 > So get some already. (G)

CS> Got too much food still to eat up from the last trip!

If you've got some ground turkey and sausage, that will work too.

Catch you later,
