-=> Quoting Michael Loo to Glen Jamieson <=-

ML> poor. Crime usually pits one poor person against another poor
ML> person with just a little more stuff: partially because the
ML> rich are scarcer and partially because the rich make themselves
 ML> scarce.
GJ> The crime of stealing is fairly well distributed over the range of
 GJ> poor to wealthy.

But the rich manage to spread their criminal activities much further,
and rob many more poorer people.

I heard that your Mr Madoff robbed quite a few thousands. Did any of
them get their money back?

ML> As usual, irrelevant to the topic. I swear, you and certain
ML> others are prone to answering a completely different point
ML> than that made in the posts you quote.

I admit to being guilty of wandering off topics...

GJ> The poorest person can, and usually does, have a knife of
GJ> some sort or another to feed himself or as a work tool. Bolos
GJ> (machetes, bushknives) are used by all agricultural workers.

ML> Okay: the poorest probably can't afford a concealed weapon
ML> that would be useful in the profession of robbery.

A robber wishing to turn professional, with a firearm, would need a
certain amount of capital to buy one, unless he stole it from an
innocent sleeper who had bought it for "protection".

 ML> It is my
GJ> experience that most people, whatever their financial state, are
GJ> honest and kind to others - even in USA.
 ML>
 ML> Troll.

Not at all! No trolling. It is my experience that the citizens of USA
are nowhere near as bad as they depict themselves in TV and other media
sources of information presented to the outside world. (Insert short
anti-Rupert rant, blaming him for that.) Most are quite nice people.
Australians, OTOH, are nowhere near as good as they depict themselves.

ML> Methodology. I looked up chili and chilli as main
ML> entries in all the substantial Wikipedias, i.e., ones
ML> with at least 10000 entries written in the language.
GJ> You have far too much time on your hands!

ML> You quote way too much, too.

Mutter, mutter...

ML> Danish, Chinese, Hungarian, Bahasa Indonesia, Esperanto, Catalan,
ML> Slovenian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Volapuk have neither.
GJ> You should have looked up cabe in Bahasa Indonesia. For even more
GJ> variations, you could try looking up sili, lombok, jabe, chaibai,
GJ> mirch, mirchi, mooloogah, fan chiew and prik.

ML> Um, what relevance do those terms have to the question at
ML> hand, which is whether the aberrational spelling of chili
ML> as "chilli" is prevalent, or even common, or even accepted
ML> in diverse parts of the world?

Not much. See my above comment about topic wandering... It could give
you some other words to look up, though.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Wintertime Brie
 Categories: Appetizers, Dips, Cheese
      Yield: 16 Servings

    3/4 c Pitted dates; chopped
1 sm Apple; peeled, cored & diced
1 sm Firm; ripe pear, peeled,
           -cored & diced
    1/2 c Dried cranberries
    1/2 c Pecans
1/3 c Rose wine; apple juice, or
           -apple jack
2 lb Wheel ripe Brie; well
           -chilled
1 lg Baguette; thinly sliced &
           -toasted if desired

  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine dates, apple, pear, cranberries, pecans. Add
wine, apple juice or apple jack. Set mixture aside to allow fruit to
marinate and soften for 2 hours.

Cut Brie wheel in half horizontally to make two layers. Place one
layer, rind-side down, in a serving dish. Spread with 2-1/4 cups of
the fruit mixture. Place remaining half of Brie on top of fruit with
rind-side facing up to enclose the fruit. Spoon remaining fruit
mixture onto center top of Brie Wheel. Seal with plastic wrap and
refrigerate up to two days. Bake Brie, uncovered, in a 350 degree
oven until it melts and the edges and the center is warm,
approximately 25-30 minutes. Do not overcook as it will be runny and
  difficult to spread.

To serve, spread melted Brie onto sliced Baguette.

NOTES : This is a favorite Dinner Club recipe that Gerri makes. It
always gets great applause. Recipe by: Gerri & Ray Patrick
