Hi Ruth!

>>> Aw, no, you have to have nice soft stretchy cheese haha

>> > But the flavor of the cheese whan it is brown is so good!

>> Yeah it is for a bit.. but it leaves a taste in your mouth :)

> There are lots of other good tastes to counter balance it. (G)

That's true :) You know, Lauren's husband loves "burned" cookies, cakes,
doesn't matter what it is.. He is the first person who I ran into like that :)

>>> pretty good at it (smile). In my house though, the only time my Mom
>>> made potatoes was when Dad was working at the hospital. When Dad was
>>> home, he wanted pasta and there was no other way about it.. talk about
>>> hard-headed haha

>> > My mom did (and does) about all the cooking. But talk about being

>> about > being out of potatoes one Sunday before dinner. There was

>> (laugh) That's just how it is here :)

> I'm going against the way I was brought up--but eating better for it.
> Same as our pasta is whole wheat, not the white mush we were raised on.

Oh we're definitely eating better as well, even though my mom was careful as
was possible given what was known then... but I guess that was the problem.. As
industrialization took hold of the food industry, we lost more and more value
in our food :( Least it seems that way to me..

>> > Not quite a Heinz 57 tho. (G)

>> Oh he tells me no german... but I was sure his dad told me they
>> weren't sure haha. That's what you get when you mix stuff (bg) (I can
>> say that since I'm "almost" pure) (vbg). What's really cool is the

>> garden. Actually, my grandfather's name was giardina, and the guys at
>> Ellis island thought it would be better with an "O"

> OK, Steve's last name is a corruption of the German word for barrel
> maker or cooper. My maiden name was Weiss which means either "I know"
> or white; my mom's was Kircher, a varient from the word kirche (church).
> Steve's paternal grandfather was a carpenter.

Neat stuff - I love learning about the meanings of last names, it's so
interesting...

>> > I'll generally give vegetables a try and do like most of them
>> (except > sweet potatoes

>> Oh I love sweet potatoes :) :)

> I had to eat my grandmother's candied sickly sweet ones (no choice in
> the matter) when I was a kid. I can look them in the eye now but still
> not very civilly. (G)

Ah, that can do it to you for a food :( We didn't had to eat everything on the
dish at home, don't remember about at the 'grandma's houses'.. Mostly I
remember my mom getting upset with us if we were daydreaming or yaking with
each other, or playing with the 'ronies on the dish :) :) Though it was
probably better all in all for us to not have to, it didn't help two of my
sisters who grew up to be very overweight people.. One eventually had to have
stomach-stapling, or whatever you call it so she didn't have a heart-attack and
die. They were very overweight children as well.

>> >and lima beans primarily). About 10 years ago in
>> And I HATE lima beans.. and succotash :) Well I like the corn, but I
>> can't digest that too well :) :) More roughage that my body can't
>> deal with. Same problem with those darn whole wheat flours...

> I like the corn and green beans too; I'll try to get a portion with as
> few limas as possible. Then I'll either give them to Steve (G) or be
> polite and eat them without comment.

Yes, I'll say I think I've pretty much outgrown my intense dislike for them
pretty much now, but... If I get them they'll most likely end up in a little
pile somewhere on my dish (laugh).

>> >AZ (at a

>> Don't you hate that! That church cookbook I mentioned before had this
>> oatmeal goopy thing that was sooooooo perfect.. and I've pretty much

>> (laugh).. but I knew it wasn't perfect yet.. it was in one of those

> That is so frustrating, especially when you just can't figure out the

I think so.. hehe.. somewhere ... :)

>>> Did you see the article in the news yesterday that some percentage of
>>> peole in the UK think that Churchill was a "myth", and Sherlock Holmes
>>> was "real"? Now I know it matters how they asked the question in their
>>> survey, but boy was that shocking.

>> > No I didn't see that. Every so often I'll watch Jay Leno on Friday

>> I'm a political gadfly.. I know you and Carol are in the service, but
>> I still want things to change.. bigtime..

> No comment; don't want the bean pot thrown at me.

Understand! :) No offence meant really, I just get p'o'd by the day's news
sometimes.. it's sad to hear it so often. And then you see things like those
people you mentioned above, it's a little frustrating.. :)

>>> > With a request for more but we couldn't fulfill it in the time they
>>> had > left.

>>> Understand.

>> > The unit came back 100% intact.

>> That is so incredibly neat to hear ;)

> We were very thankful.

I bet! I would have been so worried but you have to have faith that all will
be for the best. That and you know how brave they are going into all this :)
In Windsor we were lucky to have one of our teenagers come back badly wounded..
he was in a tank exposian, that adhered to his face, very badly scared and I'm
pretty sure I remember he lost several limbs as well.. the kid is incredible!
We had a parade here when he came home and believe me everyone was there to
welcome him :)

>She was interviewed at the homecoming for one of
> the local tv stations; my dad got a copy of that tape and sent us a
> copy. Her (at the time) 7 year old cousin was watching her all the time
> with a big hero worship expression on his face.

Oh I can imagine that one :)

Take care,
Janis
