Hi Ruth!

Yep.. then once in a while I make something I haven't made in ages, like
jambalaya and we both think, wow, why haven't I made this in so long ? (g).

>>> Oh yuck, that's nasty... I just read an article in the NYTimes about a

Hehe.. figured :)

At this point, as far as they knew, no one had ever had problems from eating
the pork .. only people who worked at the plant were affected, and not al of
them.... ("as far as they knew" eek).

>That was some sharp medical sleuthing.

Yes.. but not before so many were made so very ill... They were able to track
things down by the number of people who became ill that were closest to the
Brain-blowers (sounds sick, doesn't it).. The spray from that operation was
going out all over the closest workers to the brain blowers, even those who
weren't actually doing the "brain-blowing".. IIRC, they were using high-powered
air hoses to blow the brains out.. What they are still not sure of, is why
this is happening.. is that some people are more sensitive to the pig brain
matter (they're immune systems attack), or an infection, etc... and why.. It
was a great article and a little scarey.

I noticed it dissapeared from the NYTimes search after I read it in the Health
section, but you can still find it with Google with 'pork processing
Minnesota':

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/05/health/05pork.html?_r=1&n=Top/Reference/Times
%20Topics/Subjects/M/Meat&oref=slogin

You'd need to sign up for a NYTimes account but it's relatively painless to do
that if you haven't done so.

I figure it's something (g).. and I know I have allergies to corn or at the
very least can't digest it anyway...

Yes, I bet.. Along those lines, I felt especially bad when my first neurologist
retired after I had trained him so well (vbg). I figured I'd have to break a
new one in when I went back to NYHospital/Presbyterian Med. Center in
Manhatten.. but the new guy was just as sharp as my old doctor, luckily for me
:)

Take care,
Janis
