It is my humble opinion that full-scale wars with naval battles and
all that sort of thing are now so expensive that no country could
afford to wage one.  Even the skirmishes with insurgents here and
there are quite costly, and can drain a rich country's resources.  If
our government is determined to spend money on the navy, a few more
destroyers to send after pirates would be a better way to go.  Also
some ships like the one xxcarol served on, equipped with hospitals and
large power supplies to send to disaster areas following earthquakes,
tsunami, floods, etc would be far more useful.

The only countries which could possibly derive any benefit from
invading Australia are Indonesia and China, but there would be no
point in doing so, and upsetting very satisfying trade arrangements.

      Title: TRIPA A LA CATALANA - CATALAN-STYLE TRIPE
 Categories: Mains, Offal, Spanish, Catalan, Euro-w
      Yield: 4 servings
 
    500 g  Beef- honeycomb tripe;
           ;rinse/blanch/cut in 6cm
           ;long strips
      1    Bay leaves
           Flour
      2 tb Lard
           Olive oil
      2    Onions; chopped
      4    Tomatoes;peel/seed/chopped
      2    Parsley sprigs; chop fine
    250 ml Wine- dry white
      6    Almonds; blanch/roast
      1 tb Pinenuts; lightly toasted
      2    Garlic cloves; chop fine
    1/2 sl FRIED BREAD
           Salt and pepper
 
  Tripe is popular all over Spain, and is perhaps best-known in the
  form of callos a la madrilena or Madrid-style tripe - a rich stew,
  slightly spicy, with ham and sausage and a pig's foot traditionally
  included. This Catalan version is much simpler, but equally savoury.
  Tripe - even the ready-to-use variety now widely available - takes a
  very long time to cook, incidentally, and in any case this dish is
  better when made a day in advance and reheated.
  
  To serve 4 (as a main course)
  
  Place the tripe and bay leaf in a large pot with about 2 litres of
  water, bring to a boil then simmer 5-7 hours or until the tripe is
  tender. (Cooking time will vary.)
  
  Drain the tripe, and pat it dry with paper towels; then roll the
  strips in flour, and saute in a cassola or large frying pan in the
  lard and a small amount of oil until golden-brown. Drain on paper
  towels.
  
  In another cassola or flameproof casserole, make a sofregit of the
  onions, tomatoes and half the parsley in oil.
  
  Add the tripe to the sofregit and mix well; then add the wine, bring
  to a boil and simmer covered on top of the stove or in a slow oven
  for 1 hour.
  
  Meanwhile, make a picada of the nuts, garlic;-fried bread and the
  remaining parsley, moistened with a bit of tripe liquid to form a
  thick paste.
  
  Fifteen minutes before the tripe is done, stir the picada into the
  liquid, and salt and pepper to taste.
  
  NOTE: Roast or fried potatoes are practically de rigueur with this
  dish.
