===========================

Hi Glen,

>>> Yes, likewise, our dead trees have finally sprung to life after our
>>> winter <g>

>> Having been in NYS in Spring, I know how uplifting that is.

>> You're not kidding.. I keep a lot of plants in the house just for that
>> reason, and always have (g)... especially avocado plants.. there is
>> something about growing those plants from the seeds (knowing you'll
>> likely never see an avocado) that makes you feel like you are somehow
>> 'beating' winter (g).

> Years ago, in PNG, I took up a posting in Mt Hagen, and moved into a
> house which had been occupied for 4 years by an enthusiastic gardener
> who had planted two avocado trees. In all the time he was there he
> tended the trees, but didn't get a single fruit. The first year I was

I'll bet he was QUITE appreciative :) Here in NYS, as a house plant you figure
they are decorative only.. My mom told me that if you wait until the plant is
has a tree stalk nature to it, and you wound the stalk, the tree will produce
avocados. One of these days I will give that a try (g).. I should pot one up
in one of the gigantic tree planters I have and go from there.. I just need to
buy a ton more potting soil, or bake a ton of soil in my oven (g).

>> with small children. One would go crazy waiting for the cycles to end
>> :) But for the two of us, it's just fine.. and we hate washing clothes
>> anyhow Lol

> I have a small grand-daughter who visits on weekends, and she manages
> to get through lots of clothes.

Oh how well I know that type of demand :) When the 3 grand-boys are here on
weekends, they do the same... Clothes all over the place :) :) And by the time
they leave, my normally somewhat organized house looks like a hurricane went
through LOL.. but I'm glad they came, that's for sure :) This weekend they
came and cleared out and turned over my garden beds for me for Mother's Day
with my Daughter.. I thought that was an incredible gift for her and for me :)

>> steams up the laundry. I use the rotary clothes hoist in the back
>> garden, or the line under the car port if rain is likely.

>> This one is quite effecient.. Doesn't seem to steam up anything that
>> I've noticed, or really even heat up the room it's in. The company who
>> makes it is LG. I do very much remember the days of hanging the
>> laundry out on the line - even in the freezing cold :) Amazing to see
>> clothes dry that way (g).

> At my daughter's house in NZ I have seen and felt washing that has
> frozen solid on the clothes line, so I know what that is like. It
> never gets that cold here in Adelaide, though. I was told by a
> visiting Danish relative that our winter was much the same as their
> summer. He was lucky not to come here in summer.

Gets that bad there, eh? Our temps in the summer get in the 90's F.. once in a
great while it will hit over 100F .. but that's rare. Has to be a real bad
heat wave.

>> recipe, assist in preparation, and then show how something is done. I
>> don't mind, as I like to keep active.

>> Certainly :) She enjoys that as well and we've always enjoyed cooking
>> together moreso than probably any of my other sisters (grin).

> That is important - to be able to work together in the kitchen. I

That is very true.. I learned very young that most of really good tecniques and
information was to be learned from the older relatives in the kitchen :)

> visited my newly married niece in Houston at the same time as her
> mother-in-law's first visit, and it was pleasing to see the two of
> them working together comfortably, even though my niece was born in
> the Philippines and her mother-in-law came from Hongkong. They had
> similar ways of cooking, and some common favourite dishes, but each

> doubly blessed by what they cooked for him.

I'll bet he was very happy, as they were to learn from each other.

>>> I guess I would be safe then afterall, wouldn't I :) :)

>> I will make sure the crocodiles are well fed before you arrive. :)

>> Good thing too :) Though I am SURE I would not be planning on
>> wrestling any of them hahaha :)

> I have heard of alligator wrestling, and seen pictures of it being
> done in the 1930s, but a big salt water croc could make dinner of the
> wrestler - and the alligator!

hahaha :) I bet!

I used to LOVE to watch the crocodile fellow.. Steve Irwin.. what a great show
he had on television.. quite the entertainer. I felt really bad for his family
when he died as well though I expect they were well taken care of by his estate
and family.

>> The greatest danger is that you might like it here and want to keep
>> coming back.

>> I'm sure I would :)

> Aways welcome. :)

:)

Take care,
Janis
