It's true that for just a place to hang your hat, B&Bs
are cost-inefficient. But if you count your accommodations
as a major feature of your vacation travel, a B&B may be
worth it.

I don't use Alaska miles on either Alaska or its code shares
(ERA, PenAir, and so on) - but they do come in handy when
redeemed on other (non-code share) partners such as Qantas
and British (I've flown the latter but not the former).

The standard valuation of miles has been 2c each (your average
coach seat, gettable for 25000 miles, costs about $300-400, but
a first-class seat for 50000 miles is way over $1K, so the
pundits average such things out to get the 2c figure). I value
them at 1c each, as I use 25000 mile awards for tickets costing
more than $250 (though recently for 80000 miles I did get a ticket
that would have cost me $6165 if I'd been rich enough or fool
enough to pay that).

Translation: if you had a substantial bank of Alaska miles
anyway, a shirt is worth maybe 2000 miles, so if the offer
were for more than that, you'd have done well. But if you
have no prospect for redeeming Alaska miles (though it is
partners with a dozen airlines, you can still not combine
its miles with theirs).

 DS> We have a MC through our credit union.   It does not charge for

And yet the banks continue to lose money.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: My Favorite Corn Casserole
 Categories: Side dish, Vegetable, Holiday
      Yield: 6 Servings

      2 lg Cans creamed corn
      1 pk Saltine crackers
      2 lg Eggs
           Milk
           Salt & pepper to taste
           Butter

  Put creamed corn into a large mixing bowl.  Crush the crackers with a
  rolling pin until well crushed but not powdery, and add to corn.  Beat
  eggs and add to corn mixture, mixing well.  Add just enough milk to
  make mixture into "dropping" consistency.  Add salt and pepper to
  taste.  Pour into casserole dish and bake for about 45 mins or until
  top is lightly browned and the mixture is set.

  This is an old family recipe passed down from my Great-grandmother, a
  German immigrant who traveled to Nebraska in a covered wagon.
