Doesn't sound retro to me...  paging seems rather modern...  :)

I also dislike the cellphone/driving combination, with or without the
hands-free option.  I have family members that do it all the time, but
it doesn't seem that smart to me to have another distraction...

FWIW, I agree with your soapbox, even though I deleted it.  ;)  I use my
phone only when parked, or at very least, pulled over to the curb.  'Tis
also yet another reason for not having it usually turned on, or having
the ringer turned on...

I originally finally broke down and got the phone after having car
problems twice in one year, and both times needing to get help.  The
first time I was able to drive close enough to a safe place to call AAA
from, the second time I was saved by a passing car stopping and letting
me use their cellphone to call home.  The first few years I had it I
hardly used it at all... lately I use it more for convenience than I
used to... like to call ahead when I'm already out and about, or to make
a call that needs to be made at a certain time.  But, as I said... not
while driving.
