Yep, as a kid in South Carolina we used to go
out and play in hurricanes..mostly just wind
and rain...Tornadoes are another thing all together
you have no way of predicting where they're gonna
go, so you have a hard time getting out of the way!

Same here a number of years ago. Happily
we have always kept a good supply of
"emergency" food around so we were not
desparate for groceries. Although with the
power out we did have to cook on the 
patio with the BBQ and Camping stove!
Since we have no fireplace it did get
pretty cold in the house but we did
manage to keep warm (grin)
