Anyone who gets close enough to the durian to eat it would not be
likely to worry about the smell clinging to their hands or clothes, but
just in case, it might be a good idea to have a packet of disposable
plastic gloves available.

If it is ripe enough to eat, no more tools beyond a strong knife and
leather gardening gloves should be necessary.

If anyone has ripe mangosteens they are supposed to go well with
durians - the yin and yang sort of thing.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: TROPICAL SALAD WITH ZESPRI GREEN KIWIFRUIT HONEY DRESSING
 Categories: Mains, Sides, Dressings
      Yield: 4  Servings
 
    200 g  Bacon
    200 g  Asparagus
      2    Bananas; firm
      1 tb Lemon juice
      1    Lettuce- buttercrunch; wash/
           ;dried/torn bite-size pieces
    1/2    Pawpaw; peel/seed/in wedges
      1    Chicken breasts- smoked,300g
           ; skin/slice
      1 lg Avocado; halve/sliced
           ; KIWI DRESSING
      1 tb Oil- salad
      1 tb Lemon juice
      1 ts Honey- runny
    1/4 ts Salt
           Black pepper; fresh ground
      4    Kiwi; ZESPRI GREEN
 
  If using bacon, grill till crisp, then cut into large pieces.  Trim
  asparagus & blanch 3 minutes in boiling water. Drain, refresh with
  cold water & pat dry. Cut into short lengths.  Peel the bananas, slice
  thinly lengthwise & put them on a plate. Squeeze over the lemon juice
  & toss gently.
  
  THE DRESSING; Whisk the oil with lemon juice, honey, salt & a little
  black pepper. Peel the kiwifruit. Slice into rounds for garnishing &
  puree the rest. Add the pureed kiwi to the bowl of dressing & blend
  tegether. Arrange the asparagus, bananas, lettuce, pawpaw, chicken
  breast & avocado on a platter. Garnish with sliced kiwi, & the bacon
  if using, & spoon over the dressing. Serve immediately.
