Ärende: Picnic Regrets

Ratz! And small mice.

My plans have changed ... again. This time through an agent that I do not
recommend than anyone else emulate. A thrice cursed kidney stone of 8mm
diameter.

Spent Tuesday (my day off work) at the hospital (beginning with the Emergency
Room) and finishing with outpatient surgery where a kidney/ureter stent was
emplaced. It doesn't hurt as bad as that stone and the blockage it caused. But,
I flat promise you - it ain't comfortable.

So, in two weeks I have an appointment with the Urologist to discuss what we
are going to do. Nothing I have been able to come up with has caused them to
accelerate the process. So, we have to remove the stent and deal with the stone
- either by sound waves or laser ... and they haven't decided which. Then place
a different stent to prevent the ureter from (possibly) scarring closed. And
finally a second stent removal.

I discussed a lot of this in the pre-op portion of getting the first stent with
the surgical/urological resident (Memorial is a teaching hospital). He said
since I am on a blood thinner they are concerned that using sound to bust up
the stone (which is 2X the diameter of the tube it was blocking) may leave
jagged edges and cause bleeding. So, they may run a laser up my gazootoo to my
kidney and zap the thing into oblivion. As I told the resident "I'm knocked out
for this, right? So, I really don't give a sh ... darn)."

The effects of the stent in my kidney are not fun, either. I was told I would
feel it tug and make itself known. But, they didn't tell me it would be every
time I went to the urinal. Nor that it would feel like I had been kicked
lightly in the cobblers. Plus some other things ... that remind me of my wild
oats days when I got the world's most common social disease (at that time) a
couple of times.

Anyway, enough of this. I'm depressing myself. But, I will be dealing with this
mess for a while. So, I'll just leave it at "Maybe next year" WRT the picnic.
Damn, and Clean Dave is bringing more capicola, too.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Stromboli (Stuffed Bread)
 Categories: Breads, Pork, Cheese, Beef, Herbs
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      1 tb Olive oil
      1 lb frozen bread dough; thawed
      8 sl Hard salami; sliced thin
      8 sl Provolone cheese; sliced thin
      8 sl Capicola; sliced thin
  1 1/2 ts Dijon mustard
    1/4 c  Parmesan cheese; grated
    1/2 ts Garlic salt
    1/2 ts Dried oregano; crumbled
    1/2 ts Seasoned salt
    3/4 c  Mozzarella cheese; shredded
 
  Preheat oven to 375øF.

  Brush a 11x17 baking sheet with oil. Roll dough out on
  prepared sheet to edges. Arrange salami slices in
  lengthwise ends. Top with provolone, then capicola.

  Spread with mustard. Sprinkle with Parmesan, garlic salt,
  oregano and seasoned salt. Cover with mozzarella. Bring
  long sides of dough together atop filling and brush with
  water. Pinch and fold over to close. Brush short ends with
  water and pinch closed.

  Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes.

  Serve warm.
