No excuse for that. And it does happen. And I don't understand it,
especially when we're paying the person's salary even more obviously
and directly than in other cases.

He think he was better than you? I have someplace a jacket that
is in such bizarre taste (it's a Yves St. Laurent original, but
of a line that thankfully never saw the light of American day - I
got it because it is blue) that I can guarantee bad service when
I wear it. Then I get to complain. It's my free dinner jacket,
same as my beautiful silk collarless shirt is my free upgrade
shirt. Luckily, I don't fit into the jacket any more, though I
still use the shirt on occasion (it doesn't work so well as
when I was younger and handsomer, though). Point being that
often the way I'm treated at a restaurant where I'm not known
is heavily affected by the waitstaff's perception of me as a
rube or not a rube. They do learn, eventually, as yours may have
the hard way.

More effective to do so when the place is busy!

My recent bad waiter was more a customer of a drug dealer
than a drug dealer.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Hacienda Hamburgers
 Categories: Main dish, Beef, Noodles
      Yield: 6 Servings

      2 lb Ground beef
      2 T  Oil
    1/2 c  Chopped onion
  1 1/2 c  Chopped celery
      1 cn Tomato paste
      3 cn Water
      1 c  American cheese, diced
      2 c  Uncooked egg noodles
      1 c  Sliced ripe olives
           Salt and pepper

     Brown meat in oil, add onion and celery, simmer 10 minutes,
  covered. Add tomato paste, water, olives, cheese, noodles, salt and
  pepper and simmer until noodles are cooked, about 30 minutes. Serves
  6.

  Note: This may be made early in the afternoon and kept on low heat
  (electric skillet is ideal) until suppertime. Like spaghetti, it is
  just as good the second day. Men love it.
