Ärende: my catch up
===================
I had to take a week off from the echo as I was working 15/7, making
deals and paying off that monster overdraft. I want to be solvent
by August so I can afford to be a good host! So today I am facing 14
stacked up packets with just maybe half an hour to respond.

Yeah, that makes a pretty strong argument for mandatory parenting
classes and maybe even screening and licensing.

The Government of the NWT's Dept of Education and the diamond mines
have really been pushing what are labelled "non-traditional" careers
up here so a lot of women have become haul truck drivers, loader
operators, electricians etc. And that's where the money is if you
don't have a university degree (or you do have one but it's a
liberal arts degree). As I mentioned last week Ray's Sheila was a
haul truck operator before being promoted to a supervisory
position: "lead hand" in a huge open pit operation.

It would probably score higher than the original! And perhaps it
should. Some care and effort went into those transformations. I
wonder if any fast food head offices take notice and realize that if
they already have all the ingredients in inventory that they could
make those products en masse.

I like them and use them; they are usually good value.

> Memories Of are ridiculous and horrid caricatures

Think of them as ethnic food with training wheels for rookies.
If they are gateway foods to the real thing then they have done some
good. (My sister went from Memories of Somewhere to eating in Indian
restaurants to making her own papadams.)

As I have never been to Washington and tried a Half Smoke,
I am curious how they compare when you get here.

Even the most ordinary ones are pretty damned tasty.

Best I ever made were for my Danish Jul Kolde Bord a few years ago:
mildly pickled devilled eggs stuffed with assorted goodies and
topped with caviar.

> Heineken was a great refreshment by comparison.

Damned by faint praise! [g]

About what I would expect. But still 2 litres of 144 proof booze for
$12 has its merits. I think it would compare well to Thunderbird or
Night Train and be of interest to extreme campers. I like dark rum
and brown sugar in my Sunday morning coffee and I used to like
butter rum Livesavers when I was a kid so I just might find his
rum essence tolerable in coffee.

Nice price. We too had grilled steaks tonight. First ones of the
season, as I had forgone them during the recent broke days. But it
was Roslind's birthday and a family gathering so it was time to
splurge. We had 10 Canada AA (midway between prime and choice) dry
aged sirloins ($13.99/kg) together with last of the season grilled
balsamic asparagus, first of the season grilled corn in the husk
with chipotle butter and height of the season B.C. cherries for
afters along with little single bite petites eclairs. SIL Sandra
brought her famous (within the family at least) potato salad and
Raine brought her equally famous cherry tomato and pepper salad.
Roslind didn't want a regular cake and the eclairs were Neekha's
idea and her family's contribution. I bought a 2 L box of cheap
Australian Shiraz for swilling at the BBQ and a bottle of Tait's
Ball Buster as Roslind's BD present which the two of us will drink
at a later date, some quiet evening.

  Subj: Attack Squirrels 824

> I like crows about as much as I like squirrels, and they're

They are edible as in not poisonous but extremely tough, stringy,
gamy and malodorous... definitely survival food in extremis.

Cheers

YK Jim

... There are lots of good $2.99 wines but they run about $12.99
