I grew up using some basic spices, for some dishes, like cloves and
cinnamon and peppercorns and bayleaf, but for some other dishes, the
"spice" was a can of condensed soup...  ;)  I think I branched out more
adventurously when I got out on my own, but at least I've always been
able to feed my parents whatever I felt like fixing and didn't catch
flack for it.  :)  But I've got some spices that are undoubtedly
outdated now, since I haven't been doing so much with them lately.

It's always nicer to have them involved in the process.  :)  When we
sorted out my mother-in-law's house, she helped for a few sessions, but
it really was too much for her, and we ended up finishing the job
without her.  She'd already moved into a living-assist place, after a
stroke...

I gathered as much... but that day, as I recall, I'd had already one too
