===========
Hi Hap,

-> hn> We almost always ended up living
->  hn> "on the economy".

-> OTOH, we lived on post most of the time. We moved on to Fort Hood in

 hn> Pop was on "flying status" most of the time
 hn> we didn't even know where he was or was going.

Since Steve wasn't in the aviation field, I didn't have to worry about
that. He did get occaisional rides, including one around Oahu when his
company commander's husband needed some flying time and took him.

-> hn> Lot of hunting and a lot of fishing.

-> Not really any hunting or fishing for us but that's when we really got
-> cooking with lots of alternatives to meat. We could go vegetarian for
-> weeks at a time and have all the protein we needed.

 hn> For us a lot of hunting and fishing. Pop loved
 hn> to do both and so did I. Duck, pigeon, dove,
 hn> quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, boar, deer.
 hn> You name it and we'd hunt and eat it.

Steve had tried hunting before I met him, found he preferred to hunt
with a camera. His dad used to and his brothers still hunt. Back when
we were in Germany, Steve's folks came to visit one year. His dad had
been elk hunting so Mom brought a couple of roasts--froze good & hard,
wrapped in a good amount of newspaper and put in a Tupperware bowl.
They were still mostly frozen over 24 hours later. I cooked them in the
crock pot with some onions and a bit of liquid for 18 hours on low; they
were falling apart tender.

 hn> And I did learn some good life lessons from him.
 hn> Only shoot at what you want to hit, only
 hn> shoot what you intend to eat. Never take
 hn> more than you need. If you wound it, make
 hn> sure you put it out of it's misery even if
 hn> you have to track it down for a long time.
 hn> Never leave a wounded animal out there
 hn> to suffer.

Good lessons; too bad all hunters don't have a chance to hear them. My
dad knew a NY State Dept. of Conservation officer (the one who developed
the hunter safety program); this guy had stories that would curl your
hair!

-> hn> Yes, but you mentioned she was looking
->  hn> for more leadership opportunities...LOTS
-> hn> of those in the officer corps.

-> I know but we can't direct her life. She knows what's out there and
-> what she needs to get what she wants.

 hn> Wasn't thinking you would, just chatting between
 hn> ourselves (grin)

I know; we've made suggestions but left the decision making up to her.
She's close enough to her nephew and niece (distance wise) she can go
and spoil them; I think she likes that. (G)

->  hn> Not that they can't...just that computers don't
-> hn> figure very high in their day to day lives. ...hard
->  hn> to believe (grin)!

-> I know, sometimes I wonder how I get things done some days. (G) Really,
-> it's not bad, I'm only on it for a couple of hours or so each day. And,
-> I can multi task; the washer just beeped. Put that load into the dryer,
-> another into the washer and then come back to respond to your 2nd note.

 hn> Same here, during the reply to this note I've
 hn> taken chicken out of the freezer to thaw, put
 hn> away the groceries that I bought today. When
 hn> I finish this reply, I'll chop up the veggies for
 hn> tonights dinner and have them in the fridge
 hn> ready when I need them.

I'm relaxing after a day spent over in Chapel Hill/Durham for medical
appointments. Had to get a quick lunch between so we stopped at a place
called "noodles & company"; they have a couple of outlets in Charlotte,
one each at Duke Medical Center, Cameron Village (upscale shopping area
in Raleigh) and Chapel Hill. The menu offers several choices of Asian,
Mediterranean and American style noodles with various sides and in
several combinations. Steve had the (mild, he added Siracha) Pad Thai
and I had the whole grain Tuscan linguine (with red peppers, red onion,
mushrooms, broccoli, and garlic) combo with a Caesar salad and parmesan
coated chicken breast. Not the usual fast food--very good. You order,
have a seat & it's cooked and delivered to your table. After we sat
down, I saw that the Pad Thai has cilantro in it (reading the menu
brochure). Steve got up and went over to the order/cook station just
before his went on--in his case, without cilantro.

Catch you later,
Ruth
