It was always Dad's job to clean game and fish, skin rabbits etc.
But yes Mom did all the cooking except Sunday brunch. That was Dad's
one meal: he excelled at pancakes and scrambled eggs and usually
made one or the other.

I don't know; I was pretty young at the time and never thought to
ask. Perhaps the novelty wore off after sitting in a blind with
snow falling; perhaps the other male duck hunters (or their wives)
were uncomfortable with the idea.

Arugula was a 2008 food fad just like bacon. It went into everything.

But I can defend bacon.

     Title: Pineapple With Molasses & Lime Zest

  Servings: 1

    1/4    pineapple
           molasses 
           lime zest 

Take a whole pineapple, cut off the skin. Cut off a big wedge and
slice it into slices. Drizzle on some molasses and grate on the lime
zest and immediately taste.

Too simple! And it was intriguing. Really: a truly beguiling
combination. The molasses adds this depth and complexity you don't
expect. At first, I thought it would be like pouring maple syrup
over pineapple, but molasses is more than just sweet. It's a got a
deep, almost smoky bitterness to it that takes the pineapple to a
profound place. And the lime zest evokes the tropics, with hints of
Gin & Tonics consumed on the beach.

Our Chinese family enjoys pineapple chunks dipped (lightly!) in soy
sauce. Umami meets tart/sweet. Very yummy. (Think apple wedges
sprinkled with salt.) Try it ... but... Don't overdo the soy!
