ml-> Ground pork and lettuce for
ml-> lettuce wraps (if you don't know, shame on you)......

One thing I feel sorry [guilty?] about is that I didn't react at all when
on Sunday you asked for someone to open the lettuce into some big flat
leaves for lettuce wraps. [or did you say cups?]  I remember thinking oh,
that's something I can do.  Then some other discussion distracted me and I
never did remember it again.  I'm sorry I missed a chance to contribute,
and I'm sorry we missed out having the wraps.

ml-> Charlie's is not in the best of neighborhoods, 

We forgot your warning and wondered about as happy as clams, even walking
over to a Spanish store to pick up some stuff.  No body even looked cross
eyed at us.

ml-> We got a big box of clams and a jumbo combo platter, .......

I guess I won't review the clams, etc.... they are, and will be, well
reviewed by folk who know of what they speak.   Just know we loved the Clam
Crawl, every bit of it.   Even the fiasco at Woodman's was kinda fun, and
netted me a free beer from the boys $25 gift certificate for the clams
boiled in rancid fat.  

ml->  On this occasion we got a cod cheek plate......

Never had them before.  Lovely!

ml-> People asked for a respite from clams, so I suggested that
ml-> they go check out the artists' colony and boutique mecca
ml-> known as Rockport.  

[Chuckle]  A vipers nest of people walking leisurely up and down a narrow,
curio shop choked lane.  Once I drove into the lane their was no way to get
out, only straight ahead to a circle drive with just enough radius that our
car could cramp around it and head back down the same jungle road we came
up.  Great view from there.  We drove the whole length at a top speed of
half-a-mile an hour, threading through the amblers and standers.  It was
great fun and good people watching.  

ml-> I took Dale and Dave's place
ml-> in line, where Dale at least had been waiting for close to
ml-> half an hour. 

I didn't even think of waiting in line with you guys.  I went and saved
picnic tables and wound up sitting with all the nice ladies, instead of
roasting in the sun.  [sigh]

ml-> so I dutifully put in an order for a big box of clams ($46.70)

That was my first awareness of price and I was stunned, gobsmacked, that a
small, not quite full box of fried clams cost almost $50.  In '96 we
stopped in the Clam Box on the way home and got more clams in a single
order.  Don't remember the price but it must have been reasonable for the
time, as I wasn't stunned.   I was also stunned that we had so much to eat
and so much fun for the day's total price you named.  Great! 

ml-> A little guilt in my black little heart as people were getting
ml-> really full, and I was the only one eager to chow down again;

Not so.  I had not been pigging out!  So I actually paced myself and at
Woodman's I was ready to intercept any fried clam that looked to be
untended.   But even in my eager state I stopped after the second clam, had
one more, and quit, because they tasted funny.  I didn't know what bad
clams or bad oil tasted like and I was afraid I had eaten 3 bad clams.   I
suppose some were secretly glad the clams sucked, so they could stop paying
for them, but like you I was eager to chow down!   

ml-> We also ordered some 
ml-> raw bar, which took a while to come out, and when it did, half
ml-> the poor shellfish had been slashed to death. Fresh, though.

The beer was good, but I had little interest in your fresh raws.  Not even
enough to sponge one.  Nor even try at $1.50 each!   [g]

ml-> I forgot to mention that the steamers had been pretty good
ml-> if a little sandy.

I managed to get three and noticed the sand in all of them.  But since no
one at your Experts table was complaining I figured it wasn't worth
mentioning.  When Dave wrote that there was clam juice at your table for
dipping off the sand I wished I had spoken up.   [g]
