We'd walk over to the grocery store or pharmacy and just wander the
aisles until the wash was done. When it went into the dryers, we'd
usually stick around so we could get it out as soon as they stopped.

Our 19 year old machine's tub seal gave way with a load of uniforms in
it when we were in HI.  I got an energy efficient top loader (that was 6
years ago) then that's still going strong.

Writing letters, doing e-mail, etc.  Lots can be done in the time it
takes to do laundry.

I have Steve's help with the weight issue.  This place has no stairs so
that's not a problem for now.

We did rather well.  Some years later when we were in CA for Steve's
language school, the one drug store chain had 15 cent cones but that was
for one (dencent sized) scoop.  It was a rare treat as money was tight
but our girls did get them from time to time.  Their favorite flavor
then was rainbow sherbert.
