Ärende: Being Carded

"Such treatment?"  Because they asked you to show your ID?

When you have a bunch of people ringing registers, you don't want
them EVER to make a judgement call over whether or not to card
someone.  Yeah, great, you look old.  And the 19-year-old behind
you in line might look 24, and might be working for the state
alcohol board to see if he can buy a sixpack without getting
carded.  So you train the cashiers to simply card everyone.

Or, like they do at least one of the grocery stores here in
town, program the registers to freeze when the bar code for
alcohol is scanned and require a date of birth, in MMDDYYYY
format, to be entered to unlock the register.  The program
doesn't save or print the DOB, it's just a reminder to the
cashier that the ID needs to be checked.

And the chance that you'll get your license suspended and your
cashier will get a week off without pay and have to attend a
state "ID training class" gets reduced to nearly zero.  

If you ask about it, you can pretty much expect the answer, 
"it's policy" or "It's the rule" because it IS policy.  Cashiers
don't set policy, and neither do the kids who restock the shelves,
so why do you think you'd get an answer from them? You could
have just asked, "who sets the policy?  Can I get the office's
address so I can write to them and complain?"  Or you could've
taken it out on the low guys on the ladder by leaving your 
carriage in the checkout lane and walking out.
