A good suggestion.  I wouldn't have to worry about side-swiping other
vehicles.  I have actually got as far as riding a bicycle in USA,
following another bike rider, in quiet streets.   The only "foreign"
country I have ridden a motorbike in was Indonesia, but there, traffic
drives on the left - more or less.  One of the more amazing sights
in Bali, used to be ladies riding bicycles with another sitting
sideways on the pillion carrier, and both of them balancing a basket
of goods on their heads.  In these more prosperous days they ride
motorbikes, but with the baskets and boxes piled up higher than the
riders' heads.

When I was working on the Sumatran palm oil plantation we had trouble
with the wheel bearings burning out on the wheelbarrows used for
collecting the palm fruit.  I realised why when I saw a loaded
wheelbarrow hung off the back of a motorbike, semi-trailer style,
while pelting along at 80km/hour.  The unrefined, reddish brown palm
oil has a distinct flavour, and with it being extracted there, of
course was used for cooking in the plantation canteen.  With a strong
chili accent to 2 meals every day, I kept healthy and active.

  Dende, a thick dark orange palm oil, high in saturated fat, is an
  essential ingredient in Bahian cooking. Of African origin and popular
  in Brazilian cuisine it is part of the The Holy Trinity of Bahian
  cooking: coconut milk, dende and malagueta chile peppers.
  
  Try to find the Brazilian palm oil which is lighter in taste and
  texture than it's West African counterpart. Unfortunately, it is the
  West African that is most readily available in Latin American, West
  Indian and African markets in the United States.
  
  Or use half the amount of the West African palm oil and substitute
  vegetable oil for the other half.
  
  You can replace with a mixture made from 1 cup vegetable oil and 3
  tablespoons annatto seeds that have been soaked for 12 hours.

  Andrade, published by A Casa Do Livro Eldorado: DENDE is the oil from
  the oil palm, elaesis guineensis.  It has an unusual and powerful
  taste. "It should be pointed out that it is necessary for the novice
  gourmet to acquire a taste for it.  Once his palate has become used
  to this exotic flavour, he may be willing to go along with the
  Brazilian poets and also sing the praises of their vatapa', moqueca
  or other famous dishes using dende." It is hard to find outside
  Brazil, where it is known as palm oil or red palm oil, except for
  some countries in Africa and S.E. Asia where it is produced and
  consumed also.
