==================
Hi Ruth,

-> They do, same as Arabic--not dragging their hand thru what has been
-> written. One smear or dot out of place and you've changed the meaning
-> of the word. (G)

 RH> Sounds good to me; I spent four years of college with a blue pinkie!

I didn't, but the only language I took in college was German.

-> He went into a quilt shop with me today but worked on his computer
while -> I piced up some goodies. No jelly rolls or layer cakes (for
the -> uninformed--a jelly roll is a number of strips (25 or so) of
fabric 2 -> 1/2" wide by 44/45" long; a layer cake is a stack of
fabrics (again, -> maybe 25) cut into 10" squares. Odd names but food
related. (G)

-> RH> Knowing quilters, I'm not surprised. I've heard the terms but

Figured some of the non quilters here would have a chuckle or two out of
them. Honey buns are cut the same as jelly rolls but only 1 1/2" wide.

RH> bought the products. I'll bet Steve spent the time in chairs
RH> somewhere, working away.

He did. Started out in a basic chair at a table but after a while
switched to a comfy chair up front. If I'd not stopped when I did, he
might have fallen asleep.

 A friend's husband, both of them now RH>
deceased, went to quilt shops with her. He was her cutter, and I'll RH>
bet he did a little fabric picking too. Retired engineering professor
RH> geek type.

Steve sometimes puts in a suggestion or two about my choices but usually
leaves it up to me. I'm a lot more color discriminatory than he is. I
got some batiks this time, thinking about doing some sunset/sunrise
quilts. I do my own cutting, much as it hurts me, as my mats have
grooves worn in them from my left handed cutter. If he were to cut
(right handed), it would mess up my set up.

-> RH> The ones here have some refrigerated and frozen items, but not
 RH> fresh
->  RH> produce.
-> This is a Super Target, first one I've ever been in. All the others

 RH> We don't have any of those, and only a few Super Wal-Marts in the
 RH> state. None near me, not that I'd go in anyway. Too big, and too
 RH> Wal-Mart.

But nice to have when you want to go to just one store.

-> I've been in have the basics; this is nice having more to choose from.
-> I guess they were losing too much business to the Wal-Mart Super Centers
-> so got into the grocery game themselves.

 RH> That's what happened, but not here. Connecticut towns often have
 RH> ordinances in place that prevent the building of big stores like that.

None of the states I've lived in have had such rules. I can see CT
doing it tho. (G)

 RH> fish
-> RH> sauce all went in with the beef. Tasted pretty good.

-> Interesting sounding combination of flavors there. (G)

 RH> You don't taste the fish sauce. The leftovers were excellent, even
 RH> better than the first time around.

Left overs usually are. Tonight was split shift eating again (me eat
before my class, Steve eat after his but before taking me), the Thursday
night norm for this semester. Had left over cole slaw, chicken sausage
an mixed grains/herbs dish, then popcorn and a square of TJ's chocolate
after class.

-> RH> Not a bad idea - the canned ones are usually so darned salty.

-> And mushy.

 RH> That too, but I was being polite.

Well, I don't see putting any salt in mine and hopefully the beans won't
be cooked to a mush.

-> RH> But it would make things more fun for your descendants.
-> At that point, I won't care.

 RH> But anticipation can be half the fun.

I' not doing much long term anticipation now, have to deal with the
short term busy-ness which can get quite so at times.

-> RH> Baking is great - you get to eat the mistakes.

-> Usually, unless they're hockey pucks.

 RH> Then the squirrels and birds get rid of the evidence.

You would hope so anyway.

-> RH> That sounds about right. Supplying New York with stuff to stock

-> Catskills also supply most of their water.

 RH> One of the towns some of my family lived in at one point is now under
 RH> a New York City reservoir.

A lot of them are in the area where I grew up. Saw recently that NYS
DOT has put up signs marking the town sites along the Pepactin Reservoir
roads.  Nice touch.

-> RH> fabric. I swear it just hitchhikes to my house and invades!

-> And sits there daring you to do something with it.

 RH> Then when I do, even more clamors for attention. Then another piece
 RH> chimes in that I'd forgotten I even had, and well you get the idea.

I know, all too well.

Catch you later,
Ruth
