Five Guys is a regional chain and they are expanding. But, they are not
in the "burger biggie" class - yet. White Castle is a larger chain ...
big enough in the middle of the country. But, WC fails on two points 1>
they are not nationwide and 2> their sliders are tiny ... takes 8 to 10
to make a decent meal before the bread in the buns fills your stomach.
But, they do cook their onions with the (scanty) meat.

If I go back for an Angus burger at McDonald's I will ask that they
dress it with pickles from the regular burger line instead of the nasty
things I got on the first trip. Other than that it wasn't a bad deal
and if there isn't a Hardee's or Rally's around when the burger jones
hits .....

I don't think they pre-make their stuff any longer. All the Mickey D's
have these big, square, two sided grills (like a huge George without
the ridges). It takes very little time to churn out a meat puck to the
company standard doneness. They might deep fry their fish pucks ahead,
and I know they do their 'taters that way. But, the burgers are pretty
much (AFAIK) prepared to order ... sort of.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: White Castle Hamburgers (Sliders)
 Categories: Sandwiches, Beef
      Yield: 10 servings

      2 lb Lean Ground Beef
    1/4 c  Dry Minced Onion
    1/4 c  Hot Water
      3 oz Jar Strained Beef Baby Food
    2/3 c  Clear Beef Broth
      1 pk Hot Dog Buns

  Soak 1/4 cup dry minced onions in 1/4 cup hot water until
  soft while you mix 2 pounds ground beef with 3 ounce jar
  of strained beef baby food and 2/3 cup clear beef broth.
  Keep patties uniform using 1/4 cup meat mixture for each
  patty, flattened to 1/4" and fried quickly in 1 T oil per
  patty on a hot griddle. Make 3 or 4 holes in patties while
  frying.

  Cut hot dog buns in half. Cut off rounded ends. Fry 1 t
  onions under each patty as you turn to fry 2nd side. Slip
  each patty into bun with 2 dill pickle chips, mustard
  and catsup.
