Sean,

Your message is exactly the type of prejudice I am talking about.  You
are casting all vegans into the same pot as the few you have had the
mis-fortune to meet.  While it may well be true that some vegans are
militant and will attempt to proselytize into their way of life, that is
by no means universal.  Most likely, you never noticed the ones who did
not do that.  But, because of those few, you will say that all vegans
are idiots, are stupid and are jerks.  While you may believe that their
choices are obvious follies, not all people believe that -- and most
people would say that while they do not agree with their choices they
have the right to make them for themselves.

Your criticism of their choices has as much merit as those who might
criticize the reasoning of someone who abstains from alcohol, even in
cooking.  Or the reasoning of someone who abstains from pork, or
shellfish, or ...  , especially when you do not really even know or
understand their reasoning.
