When I joined the Echo years and years ago one of the most important rules
was that one did not argue a Moderation <in> the Echo.  All the defending,
backfilling, explaining and protesting was done privately with the
Moderator.  Back then it was Pat Stockett.   

The most reference one made, in the Echo, to being moderated was to quietly
accept the moderation, perhaps even apologizing.  Then perhaps raise hell
in private Echo mail with the Moderator. [I can't remember what we called
that mail.]  And no one else butted in, on either side!

Anyone who insisted on arguing and threatening were in danger of being
blocked from the Echo.   Tough?  Yeah, but it sure was effective in keeping
the Echo friendly. 

I well remember several times when a drop-in person was disruptive, got
moderated, sneered at the Moderator and said "you can't stop me," and was
not seen in the Echo again.   That was always a delight, and kept the Echo
quiet and happy.  

I think we should go back to the old style.   Respect for the Moderator. 
Argue and fuss and defend in private... E-mails are quite nice for that. 
After all, nothing is so vitally important to fight about here, with
personal remarks.

For heavens sakes folks, lighten up.  

Should I be butting in, even though I am not writing here much?    I hope
so, I read a lot, but I don't know.   I would cheerfully accept a
moderation that I should not be beating something to death.   I might not
agree but I would shut up.

And lastly, The Moderator does the job of quieting us down...give him
credit and admit we need it from time to time.
