============================
Hi Ruth,

->  RH> never had
-> RH> to use dual measurements.

-> If we stayed within the American facilities exclusively, we wouldn't
-> have had to use metrics much. But, I shopped on the economy a fair
-> amount so it was nice to know if 2 klos of apples at so many DM/k was a
-> better price than 4.5 pounds at so many $/lb at the commissary. In
-> England, I got some fabric at a Laura Ashley store; they measured in
-> your choice of meters or yards per pound. No brainer there, almost 4
-> more inches by the meter.

 RH> Duh (G). I can convert fairly easily, but don't have to use it on a
 RH> daily basis except at the gram level. Whenever I have to deal with
 RH> precious
 RH> metals I have to figure out the gram weight. Fortunately the scales do
 RH> it for me.

We keep a scale in the kitchen that we can switch from English to metric
by the push of a button. Our default setting is metric as it's more
precise. No precious metals dealt with around here, just various
grains, apportioning salad greens, desserts, etc. Good for helping us
keep better portion control on some things.

-> Sound like you've got the wrong kid there, even if she does eat hot
-> dogs.

 RH> She doesn't like chocolate either.  We're not 100% sure she wasn't
 RH> switched at birth.

It's been known to happen. (G)

->  RH> My pinkie is about a five, maybe a 4 1/2 these days.

-> Mine might be a 3--have to find the pinkie ring I got in college years

 RH> I can't get one that small over a knuckle. Bitty isn't the word for

And I have no problem. But, I can also handle a good sized chef's knife
almost like a paring knife at times.

-> RH> absolute best. My favorite brownie pan came from an estate sale
 RH> for a
->  RH> quarter.  Vintage 50s aluminum with a handle.  They don't make

-> My mom used to have ice cube trays like that.

 RH> You can find those too once in a while. Beat the plastic ones all
 RH> hollow.

Probably more likely to be found at estate sales these days.

-> RH> any more. I just got a pair of 14K earrings for fifty cents, but
-> RH> they're for Ebay since my ears aren't pierced.

-> Mine aren't either; Steve says that I've got enough holes in my head
-> already. (G)

 RH> Me too! Mine are all internal and documented on MRIs. OK, so they're
 RH> technically plaques rather than holes, but they might as well be for
 RH> all the use I get from what they're covering up!

It was his way of asking me not to have my ears done; I had no problem
with it as I never really had the urge to get them pierced anyway.

-> We were in the 40s last night and will be for another 5 days, at least.
-> Daytime temps are in the low to mid 50s, with cold rain for most of

 RH> We aren't supposed to break 50 tomorrow. We had SNOW in the state
 RH> yesterday.

Not surprised; isn't another storm supposed to blow thru today? We're
supposed to have lows in the 30s the next few nights; highs may reach
60.

-> RH> It's only two cents here, but the reusables are hip and becoming

-> Almost every store (even ones like Home Depot and Lowe's) has their own
-> bag; Wal-Mart has 3, ranging from cheap, only good for a few uses to
-> best, a good sturdy one.

 RH> The prettiest come from A&P stores; they have solid ones with pretty
 RH> designs on them.

We don't have A&P around here but I got a bag with surf boards on it
last summer. We visited Dale & Gail and hit up a Trader Joe's while in
MD. The city of Wake Forest gave out forest green bags as part of their
energy savings display at city hall earlier this month.

-> I know my parents don't--but they should. Trouble is, they would have
-> to eat better than what they are doing now.

 RH> Sometimes it doesn't take much.

No, but most of the time they do their grocery shopping at the end of a
day of doctor appointments and other shopping. They also refuse to use
the "ride 'em" carts so they're rather worn out by the time they get
home (an hour's drive away).

-> RH> any. It's not a standard product here. This far north the liquid
-> RH> sweeteners of choice are maple syrup and honey.

-> It's a different flavor, a light molasses might come close to a taste
-> you could identify with.

 RH> Sounds good. I've had weirder stuff.

No surprise there.
