Have you read any of my posts talking about Project Linus?  That's a
national (international?) organization that makes blankets (quilts,
afghans, etc) for children in crisis situations.  I worked with a
volunteer group for that in Savannah, sponsored by a local quilt shop.
Also, in HI we had a group at our church that made baby quilts for
babies in the hospital for long term special needs.  I made quite a few
quilts for that group too.  I'll probably get involved in something like
that up here at some point.

I don't know how cold it gets there in the winter but they probably had
use for the knit stuff.  After all, it got cold enough to snow on Maui
and the Big Island during the winter.

I do too, from time to time. Usually when I make sauerbraten I'll do red
cabbage and either noodles or home made spaezle with it.  Only trouble
with meals like that is, that it seems to be eaten fast in proportion to
the amount of time spent making it and then in cleaning up afterward.
But it does taste good while being eaten. (G)

I used to just flip my eyes over to the next recipe but now I'll stop
and consider what I can use as a sub if it looks like something I really
want to try.  Then I'll see what else the recipe calls for; if it's
pork, I have to think about if Steve would want to try it.  We have
other likes & dislikes to be taken into consideration before I decide to
try a recipe or not.

I saw your message to Dave S. about her having home canned tomatoes.  My
mom cans then whenever the crop is good enough (not this year) to use in
chili, spaghetti sauce and have as just "stewed tomatoes" every so often
during the winter.  I have canned them in the past and hope to have
enough to do so next year.  We've got some still on the vines but temps
are to get into the mid 30s this week so we may pick them.
