=============
Hi Hap,

->  hn> I hope you win!

-> It'll all be over in 24 hours. Had to come up with a name for it so
-> decided on "Totally Tasty Chili" I wanted to use "Semi Organic But
-> TTC"; Steve said it was too long. Better than his frou-frou suggestion
-> of "Confetti Chili" tho (from the colors of the peppers, corn, tomatoes
-> and beans in it).

 hn> Well?? Did ya win?? I'm sure you
 hn> clobbered the competition!!

Almost totally disasterous. I made up the chili Saturday, intending on
having enough time to do a slow reheat and check for spice correction
Monday afternoon. I had an 11:30 medical appointment in Chapel Hill
(almost an hour from here); Steve had an interview for one of his
classes set up for 1:30. I didn't get in to see the doctor until about
1:15, out by 1:45. We took a wrong turn on the way to the interview
which set us back easily 20 minutes or so.  The interview started at 3;
I checked with them about 3:20 to find that Steve's digital recorder had
been set wrong. He finished about 3:45; I had to have the chili in for
judging NLT 4:45. Called the co-ordinator on the way home to let her
know the situation.

Got home at 4:40, tossed about a quart into the microwave to warm & go
in the baby crock pot. After it came out, Steve put in the 3 quart
dish and ran me/chili to the competition. I turned it in (co-ordinator
said it was OK to do so but judging had begun) and waited for Steve to
return with the other 4 quarts in the big crock pot. He finally called,
said he was on his way but that the microwave had conked out while
reheating the last quart. By the time he got in, got the pot set up and
we got into line, we were near the end. Both chilis I tasted were
pretty much the same, just meat, heat and beans.

I didn't win anything but the ladies at the table where we sat said that
they enjoyed mine the most. Twelve chilis were entered; I think 4,
maybe 5 won anything. The over all winner took a couple of lesser
category prizes besides the top; we heard someone say he'd been trying
for 3 years to win. There was a venison chili, one made with moose meat
and one that looked like chicken soup besides mine and others like it.
We came home with a combined less than half cup between the 2 crock pots
and a microwave that was still dead.

Yesterday Steve tried replacing a fuse but to no avail. He went on line
during most of his free time yesterday, some today. Today he bought a
2.2 cubic foot (old one was about 1.6) Panasonic black & stainless
steel, with inverter technology, replacement. Thus ends the great chili
cook off saga. BTW, the doctor was well satisfied with the way my lungs
sounded.

-> hn> Me I was lucky right out of the gate and
-> hn> have a great spot, a great boss, and great
->  hn> fans! I'm happy right where I am!

-> Sounds like you hit the jackpot on the first spin of the wheel. (G)

 hn> I sure think so! Good fun place to
 hn> work...so good that it's hard to
 hn> consider it "work"!

That's the way it should be. Wish you had done that instead of the post
office?

-> hn> I'm glad Griffey decided to come back, he
-> hn> was a major factor in how the team turned
->  hn> around last season...and he's playing for
-> hn> the love of it now, not just money.

-> At his age, yes it is love of the game. He probably has enough money
-> put away to feed everybody at the concession of their choice for a
-> season.

 hn> More than likely several seasons!

Depends on what tastes the fans have. (G)
