I'll have to give it a try. Right now we've got our basil, oregano and
parsley inside, bushes of rosemary and lots of spearmint outside.

We'll see how well the side of the house protects it.  There are several
patches of it.  Actually, probably now is the time of year to get rid of
some of the plants in the garden area that have died off.  It'll give us
room to put others in next spring.

They carry basics; small ones will have 2-3 brands of say tomato sauce,
one may be in regular and no salt, another might be regular and a couple
of their varieties with herbs/spices, if there's a 3rd brand, you may
find an organic variety.  Larger cmmissaries would have the 3rd, maybe a
4th to choose from.  All are name brands, no generic. (Fort Hood had
generics when we were there in the mid 80s.) Dry cereals would include a
variety from each of the major manufacturers; the extent of the
assortment would depend on the size of the commissary.  But no, your
best chance for odd or harder to find things, especially local to the
area.  Specialty things like Kosher for Passover would be available in
the right season; small stores would have the basics, larger ones would
carry the basics plus some things like potato pancake mix for example,
not neccessarily a staple but "nice to have" type stuff.
