Answering one of the two copies of this post.

Many African tribes do tattoo. But they rub mud into the fresh tattoo so as to
cause a raised welt/scar that is quite visible. I don't remember from the
National Geographic Society articles if they used any ink or colour, or if they
just caused the designs to swell with the foreign matter. In some tribes even
the women were tattooed.

       Title: Oyster Soup of the Tribes from the N.E. Coast
  Categories: Seafood, Shellfish, Soups
       Yield: 4 servings
 
      24    Oysters; shucked w/liquor
     1/4 c  Butter
       2 c  Milk
     1/4 c  Cornmeal
     1/2 ts Salt
     1/8 ts Pepper
 
  Place the oysters, oyster juice and butter in a large
  saucepan. Mix 1/4 cup of milk with the cornmeal then
  stir in the rest of the milk and add to the oysters.

  Heat very gently, stirring for about 25 minutes.

  Season with salt & pepper and serve.
