=====================
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> If the string is OK, I would too. Cotton and silk get fragile with
-> RH> age and wear, so I'd be a little careful. I don't wear pearls

-> It was restrung when my mom inherited in 1974. At that time the triple
-> strand was was split into 3, one each for me and my sisters. I've not
-> worn mine too much since.

 RH> Sounds like a plan. It's too bad they broke the set up, but just as
 RH> well that it was restrung. They're wearable now.

Made it easier for my mom to divide it and have them cleaned & restrung
at the time she inherited it (and a number of other pieces).

-> RH> They made funkier designs in it since the metal was cheaper.

-> I'll leave that to you then; I'm not into funky.

 RH> I'm into wild, wacky, weird, strange... you name it. Some pretty
 RH> stuff too.

Some of my clothes are a bit out of place for the southeast but get worn
anyway. A mu'umu'u is rather comfortable Sunday go to church wear when
temps are hot & sticky. Then when it's cooler, a western style skirt,
vest (and/or jacket) with boots are comfortable--all of the above are in
my wardrobe, made by me. One older lady in our church in Savannah used
to tease me about coming over and stealing my wardrobe.

> -> HI. Bob wanted to ask the waiter how long the place had been open
 RH> but
-> -> didn't know how so I just asked "?Quantos an~nos aqui?" which worked.
 RH> ->
-> RH> I could probably get that far, but that's about it. A cousin of my
 RH> ->
-> There are a couple of other rather important questions I can ask.(G)

 RH> Where's the bathroom?

?Donde esta la cuarto de ban~o (or toilette)?

-> Anyway, this place had some pretty good food, even if it was the
-> standard stuff that most Mexican places serve. Rather unexpected in
-> rural Alabama, but you could say the same about the Chinese place whre
-> my folks live.

 RH> These days Chinese joints are everywhere.

Seems to be so. This one has been going for I think at least 10 or more
years. It's in the old post office building--a bit of a disconnect the
first time I went there.

-> RH> mom's sent out Spanish Christmas cards this year for no known
 RH> reason.
-> RH> I didn't have to resort to the translation on the back of the card.
 RH> ->
-> Inexpensive or didn't know the wrong cards were picked up or just to be
-> contrary. One of the above 3 should fit.

 RH> I'd bet on the cheap.

Your relative, not mine. We got a sweet home made one from Robert
today.

->  RH> It's addictive - worse than chocolate.  I've written literally 1000
->  RH> captions so far.

-> I don't go there; I don't want to get sucked into something that has the
-> potential to take a lot of time I can best use elsewise.

 RH> It goes in spurts for me. I'll be glued to the site for a day or two,
 RH> and then gone for a week.

I've got other things to do--finish a dress for Sarah, read a book
before the Israel trip, hem some pants before the trip, etc, etc, etc.

-> RH> It would depend on what it was, and where. I wouldn't want to open
 RH> a
-> RH> restaurant right now, at least around here.
 RH> ->
-> I can always make money sewing for others. Seems there's always a demand
-> there.

 RH> I get asked about that too, but it's one of those things I've never
 RH> been comfortable doing.

Then don't do it. I had to do a quick job of marking a hem last week; I
didn't have the luxury of the time I usually do, nor did I have my
tools. But, it turned out perfect according to the young lady who
needed the job done. Sometimes I get so caught up in a sewing project
that I forget to get something out for supper. Having a freezer of quick
(home made) meals and a microwave in which to thaw/heat them helps in
times like that.

->  RH> 40s although it's not going to last.  I'm not sure I've ever had a
-> RH> pipe freeze; New Englanders tend to keep our piping where that
 RH> won't
-> RH> happen unless the power goes out for a few days.
 RH> ->
-> I know, they're still learning how to build for cold weather in the
-> south. One place we lived at in Swansboro had no insulation in the
-> attic until we put some in. We've had a few warmish days but it's
-> supposed to chill off again starting tonight thru the week end.

 RH> It's not going to get out of the 30s here all week. I have a foot of
 RH> fiberglass in the attic.

I doubt we've got that much. We've got a good chance of snow tomorrow
and Saturday. Definately bundle up weather.

Catch you later,
