bacteria couldn't be the cause of ulcers.  Marshall's creative idiocy
in using his own guts as a laboratory showed that the human stomach
was different.  I'm sure his wife gave him a proper telling off after
she learnt what he had done.

As far as I could follow it, ulcers take time to develop, so by
allowing the bacteria to penetrate the stomach wall, carrying the
vaccine, and then killing off the bacteria after they had done their
job, no permanent harm is done.  Just don't forget to come back for
that second dose of medicine!

      Title: TURTLE BROTH
 Categories: Soups, Aboriginal, Australian
      Yield: 6 servings
 
      2 lg Carrots
      2 lg Onions
      2    Leeks
      2    Celery stalks
      2 tb Olive oil; OR
      2 tb ; canola oil
      2 sl Turtle- freshwater; with
           ; bone, hand-sized
      2    Stock- chicken cubes
      6 l  Water; use
           3    2L plastic milk bottles
      2    Bay leaves
      1 tb Thyme, dry
     12    Peppercorns
           Salt and pepper
           Turtle stomach (tripe)
 
  This dish is fantastic with turtle trip (stomach) which has been
  cleaned, cut into small pieces, fried, & placed in the soup. If
  turtle is not available, oxtail can be used or shin/gravy beef. If
  fresh vegetables are not available, use frozen mixed vegetables.
  
  Peel, wash & roughly chop the carrots, onion & celery. Add oil to
  camp oven or large pan, heat, then add turtle meat & vegetables. Cook
  till brown (10 to 15 minutes). Add water & chicken cubes, bring to
  the boil & skim off any scum. Add bay leaves, thyme & peppercorns.
  Simmer/clow cook 2 or 3 hours or till turtle meat is tender.
  
  Strain liquid & set aside, use cloth if strainer is not available.
  Cut meat into bite size pieces. Cut vegetables into small pieces.
  Place meat back in camp oven with the liquid/stock, heat & season
  with salt & pepper.
  
  Cut turtle stomach into small pieces. Heat oil & fry stomach in pan
  till crisp. Add to turtle soup. Ladle soup into bowls.
