Shemp (Samuel Horowitz) was in the original group when it was he and brother
Moe as foils for comedian Ted Healy. The act was known as Ted Healy and his
Stooges. Shemp left the act because he couldn't stand the abrasive Healy. He
came back until 1932 when he went off to have a solo career as a character
actor. After Curly (Jerome Lester Horowitz) suffered the stroke Shemp came back
because he realised that Moe and Larry would be finished without a third
Stooge. He was only going to stay until a replacement could be found. As it
worked out, Shemp remained a Stooge until his death from a heart attack in
955.

Other Stooges tried in the Shemp/Curly slot were nowhere near as successful as
the original(s).

      Title: Three Stooges Roast Chicken
 Categories: Five, Poultry, Stuffing, Corn
      Yield: 4 servings

      5 lb Chicken
      1 c  Melted butter
      1 c  Pepperidge Farm stuffing
      1 c  Uncooked popcorn
           Salt & pepper

  Preheat oven to 350øF.

  Brush chicken well with melted butter, salt, and pepper.

  Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.

  Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of
  the oven.

  Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's butt
  blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across the
  room, it's done.
