I've always had a fairly big curiosity bump too, when it comes to food. 
This area has big immigrant populations, so the raw ingredients are often
available in regular groceries.  The new guys on the block change, but some
of their foods move into the local mainstream and stick around.  That
so-called Hilshire Farms polish sausage, for example, stays in the case. 
There are always three or four local brands of real kielbasa to choose
from. I don't buy it often, but when I do it's the real thing.

I do, but not working speakers.  They'd work if I had more outlets to plug
them into, but I'm already pressing my luck with one power strip in a 40
year-old socket.

I don't deep fry anything, no deep-fryer for one thing, but every so often
I just need some grease.

The beef would actually be OK, but lamb would be more common.  Beef does
crop up in some dishes, but I don't think actual Greek cooking in Greece
uses it much.  They grow bumper crops of peaches there, but I don't think
they have much of a cattle industry.

I don't think I've ever had a bad Greek meal.  Then again they eat snails
on Crete, so you never know.  Then again I've eaten snails and liked them.

You can say that again. I've seen similar things done with Dr Pepper and
Coke, but not root beer.
