Hi, Ruth-

I detest going into Wal-Mart myself, but I do it because in a lot of
ways, for GM stuff, they can be the only game in town. K-Mart recently
downsized here and really doesn't have a lot of stuff anymore, plus
their prices are higher than nearly anyone else in town. I much prefer
going to a "mom-and-pop" store, but when I need something and I'm on a
tight budget, I don't always have a choice.

That's good. We generally shop at Food Lion or Kroger. The FL near us
closes early because there have been a few murders in the parking lot
(!), so if I need to go anytime after 9 PM, I head over to the much
larger and safer Kroger that's 24/7 up at the "top of the hill" in town.
Both Wal-Marts here are on the edges of town and generally serve people
outside of the city; there's enough business here with the college to
support two 24/7 Kroger stores, two Food Lion stores, a few IGA stores
as well as two 24/7 Wal-Mart supercenters. So we do have a choice with
that.

 RH> Rat Shack around here.

I've called RS that too when I worked there in 2003.

 RH> Like wire. Food. Clothes?

We can get better food down there-basically of a more organic,
higher-quality type than up here. You can get it up here but only from
May to October when the farmers' markets are open. Otherwise it's a
really lousy selection. Clothing too, believe it or not. People up
here tend to hold on to their stuff much longer than down in Atlanta and
the thrift stores here have a much poorer quality and selection of
clothes than down in Atlanta (the West Coast thrift stores are the best
I've been to myself).

As for clothes, I haven't bought any new clothes in a couple of years.
I generally go clothes shopping every four years, whether I need it or
not. <G> I'm a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy and those items are rather
long-lasting.

RH> There's an Aldi about half an hour from my house; I've never been in it
RH> because it's on the other side of Hartford. That half hour can turn to
RH> 90 minutes without much trouble some days.

I understand that. The nearest ALDI in Douglasville was about 17 miles
east in Atlanta; that was a 40 minute drive, quite easily, most days.

RH> There isn't one of those around here either. There's one on the coast,
RH> but with my MS that's about 20 miles too far to drive.

For us it's a six-hour drive, so it'd better be something we need. <G>
We've had problems with IKEA's shipping before (slow and broken pieces
upon arrival), so we agreed that if we needed something from IKEA, we'd
just get my dad's trailer and go down there to get it. Besides, we
could visit my mother-in-law and prowl around Atlanta to visit some
much-missed favorite haunts.

No recipe now; need to install MealMaster on this machine.

Later,
Sean
