Hi Folks, I needed time to put this together.  It's hard to filter hundreds
of hotels so I hope you find what I peeled out is useful.

Picnic:  Carol Shenkenberger

Dates: 27-31 May 2010

Beginning list of Hotel information.  All are 
either smoke free or offer smoke free rooms. Quite a few take pets.

List gathered using ORBITZ.  Additional discounts may apply at each
site.  AARP, Military are commonly discounted here.

Because VB is a vacation and Convention location, there are 
*hundreds* of hotels.  If you want a beach front one, there are good
deals for several very nice main chain types from Ramada, Hilton, 
Choice to Clarion and so on.  Please have me check any 'too good to 
be true' priced beachfront ones.  They often are 'not as advertized'.

Below is a good area concentration set very near my house with 
extremely easy drives and a cab if desired will be under 10$.

The first 4 are walking distance of each other which would make 
carpooling very easy.

- A decent place if you just want a clean bed

Crowne Plaza Hotel VIRGINIA BEACH-NORFOLK - $99

- Really nice.  If you want snazz and dont care about
having a kitchen.  May be having a meal here.

Days Inn Virginia Beach Town Center - $50
4600 Bonney Road,Virginia Beach, VA 23462 
3.1 Miles West of 356 dodge drive
- Better than it sounds from the price. Lacks frills

ESA VA Beach-Independence Blvd - $104
4548 Bonney Rd.,Virginia Beach, VA 23462 
3 Miles West of 356 dodge drive
- Has a kitchenette

Red Roof Inn Virginia Beach - $77
I-64 at North Newtown Road,Virginia Beach, VA 23462 
5.7 Miles West of 356 dodge drive
- Farther but added as I seem to recall one of us gets some
special discount.


This is only a scan of those in very close distance
and accounting as well for ease of access to my place.

Due to these looking quite good on the web, added small
list of 'you will not be happy'

Bow Creek Inn - *highly not recommended*   

Econo Lodge Town Center - *not recommended* though the attached
'Mi Casitas' restraunt is another possible meal place

Travelodge Bay Beach - *highly not recommended*

I didnt do too well on a BnB search but will keep trying.  So far, the ones I 
found were 20 miles away or were otherwise not as nice as these hotels or
wanted 200$ a night (they apparently do really nice gourmet meals).

Some of the hotels go up on Sat/Sun.  Search was based on Thurs-Mon (checkout
Tuesday)

Later, we look at events and such.
