Ärende: And Sew On
==================
Hi Janis,

>> (g) My daughter is the one who came up with this, though.. she came
>> over one day and said, here, make these Lol.. pattern, fabrics and
>> elastic included with the request (smile). She's on one of those

JK> > No call ahead "mom, I'm bringing you a sewing project" type warning?

JK> No, not necessary really... she knows that my sewing skills far
JK> outweigh hers and that I've got all the tools to even make patterns
JK> here if I need to. She also knew that I wouldn't do it all in 'one

Same here, with both girls, even tho they both have machines. They like
to do basically patternless projects--dog beds, whole cloth quilts, etc.
Last time I was out in Las Vegas, I helped Rachel cut down a dust ruffle
from a queen size bed to one that fit her day bed. Then it was "Mom,
will you please sew it?" since she was about ready to have Sarah and it
was awkward for her to sew that much fabric.

JK> sitting' as perhaps I'd done in years past.. that wasn't necessary
JK> with this either.. I could make her five at a time, hand them over and
JK> then start the next bunch.

I tend to go in fits and spurts as well. I finished the top to Sarah's
quilt a few months ago but haven't put it together yet. Now that school
is winding down, I'll probably get going on that.

JK> > Rachel has asked about some sun dresses for Sarah; I've got one
JK> pattern > & will do a couple from it. She's got another one, with
JK> fabric but I > don't know about thread and other notions.

JK> It's great that you can do that for her - I remember my great aunt
JK> making me a sundress when I was about 10 years old.. I loved it as my
JK> mother never learned to sew - the idea of sewing to make your own
JK> clothes struck me as being so neat then :) :) Much later, when I was

Our girls went on a streak where they didn't want home made clothes.
Then we moved to Germany & after a while, realised that by my sewing,
they didn't have to look like all the other kids whose parents shopped
at the PX. (G)

JK> married I brought the same great aunt to my sewing room to see the
JK> brand new Athena I'd bought. She was pretty amazed at the technology.

I was too, the first time I saw ads for it. Only things it didn't do
was the cooking & clean up and change the baby. A couple of years after
the Athena came out, I got my mom's almost brand new Futura 2.

>> as the above. This crowd especially likes diaper covers embroidered
>> with fancy pictures, like teddy bears, halloween pumpkins, etc. :)
>> Luckily, my machine is up to the task (g).

JK> > Yes, I could do the embroidered covers too--if Rachel wanted them.
JK> I > mentioned it at one time and she didn't sound too excited. I will
JK> do > panties to go with the sun dresses tho.

 JK> That's neat - will look so cute :)

Helps the outfit to look better than just having a "bare" diaper too.

>> Nothing like trying to learn on a full stomach (g).. I'd be asleep at
>> the desk I think :)

 JK> > It's not usually a heavy meal.

JK> That's good - though for me, it wouldn't matter.. Literally as soon as
JK> I eat, I'm asleep for about an hour afterwords these days. Fatigue
JK> from the MS.. Sometimes I take one of my meds to stay awake after
JK> eating.. it works well, but the problem being it's almost like
JK> drinking a lot of coffee at night. Then you can't sleep when you want
JK> to later that night :)

Sounds like Steve's Provigil (Modafinil). He takes a whole one in the
morning, then can take another half around lunch time if he needs to
stay awake in the afternoon. If he takes it after 2-ish he's awake late
at night. Even with it, some afternoons I've noticed he'll drowse off
after lunch.

If I just sack out after eating if it does hit
JK> me, and I only sleep an hour, then I have no problems later that night
 JK> :)

That'll work. I try not to nap too late in the afternoon (had to lie
down a couple of times recently) or have a caffienated drink after
6-ish. Either one of those factors and it takes too long to get to
sleep.

JK> > Steve gets a break in his class because
JK> > it's about 3 hours long. Mine is only 2 hours and a lot is
 JK> covered--get

JK> Yes, night classes and some classes that go for 1hr & half cover a lot
JK> of materiel... and quickly as well.

Mine are packed 2 terms to one of his semesters. Most classes are
offered on either Tuesday or Thursday nights with a few intensives--from
about 4 on Friday to nine, then all day on Saturday. Steve registered
for a Tuesday night class for fall semester; if the one I want is the
same day, we'll be doing the crazy supper thing again.

 JK> > writer's cramp in it!

JK> I remember those days :) :) Never used a tape recorder during lectures
JK> but I knew a lot of people who did.

Same here. Nice thing about recording the class is that you can listen
to it several times--while fixing a meal, cleaning up after one, taking
the kids to school, etc.

JK> > We don't have a formal break but can slip out if
JK> > we need to. Only 2 more classes and then the final. After the
JK> final, > I'll decide for sure what I'm going to bring up to Carol's.

 JK> Should be a nice picnic :)

A small gathering but a good time is anticipated. You know all involved
but for Carol's husband.
