Hi Ruth,

>> I remember how bad the 90's (high or low) hit me when we lived in
>> Louisville, KY.. I love the heat, but Ron always tells me I do so much
>> better in the cold weather.. and he's right, drat (laugh)

> I like a nice in between. Overall, I can't say cold is better than hot
> or vice versa for me but it's generally easier to keep the house cool
> than to get it warm.

Once the house warms up in the spring, it's not hard here to keep it warm.
Still we figure to replace a lot of the siding and put in more insulation this
summer when Ron paints the house. Alex is supposed to come and stay for some
of the summer to help him with that.

>>> warmish weather (about 65-69F).. but tonight it's going to drop..
>>> crud. These swings in temperature outside really do my legs in.

>> > They do my lungs in as well.

And I bet the humidity is worse when its warm as well.. that can't be good for
your lungs :(

>> hot air. She and her family can use some prayers right now. I'll
>> netmail you.

> Got it, wrote back. I'm a bit late on reading the past few days, trying
> to study for a final exam, among other things.

Understand, and know that your exams have to take precidence. Waiting for the
reply here, but it's probably on it's way.

>> Hope they were able to get things going ok. When I tried to get Mom
>> to use a computer (even just for email), she essentially crossed her
>> arms across her chest, and said NO (laugh). Guess that was that :)

> Dead hard drive. Don't know if the new one has come in & been put on or
> not. Dad said that the man repairing it was able to talk w/Dell techs
> and get his maintainence agreement and all that. Looks like their
> Quicken is a goner but not much on it tho.  Dad is the computer user;
> mom is aftaid of the thing.

I think that was mom's reason for refusing to touch the thing (g)

>> counters > think again. Medical insurance administered by those with
>> no medical > background needs to change (biting my tongue so I won't

>> Yes I can undersand biting your tongue, we could go on forever about
>> that one :( :( Well, the good thing is, the company Ron works for does
>> have an insurance advocate who will contact Aetna and keep at them
>> until things are straightened around. I'm waiting to hear back from
>> her.. I should hear something on Monday I hope.

> Hopefully all went well.

No word yet that the insurance company is giving in, but I can't imagine they
will not..

> We have had "rounds" with Tricare but nothing
> that couldn't be reasoned out yet. Part of it was changing coverage
> zones (different policy administrators) coupled with retirement. As in,
> OK, Tricare South covered this while Steve was on active duty; why won't
> Tricare North do the same now that he's retired? It all worked out tho.

Yes, this thing with Aetna is totally ridiculous.. requiring me to take a
medicine that I don't need to get another :) And one that costs 3X as much as
the one my doctor wants me to take :)

>> You mean I shouldn't be throwing my old shoes to them ?? (just kidding
>> (grin)) they actually found a place where I'd stashed a few pairs of
>> old shoes and boy did they rip them up. So much for not much in the
>> way of Lab. Retriever genes.. they decimated those shoes (g). They
>> were under a dresser, way in the back.. not so hidden I guess (laugh)

> Not for a couple of puppies who wanted something to chew on. In that
> case, any thing is fair game, even if it's (in your eyes) well hidden.
> Puppies have radar for things like that; Rachel's Molly did, she said.

They are funny in the things they "find" :)

>> She hasn't mentioned needing any other drugs at this point. They
>> didn't do a radical either. Her's was mainly in the nipple (sound
>> terrible :() but they are sure they got all of it. I do wish she'd
>> come back for a visit here so I could make sure she eats decent food.

> I just had a lumpectomy--worked out a lot better.

Same for her. She's doing pretty well now, and I'm hoping the puppies will be
a bit older by the time she gets here.. Last year she came at the end of June.

>Try to get your mom
> up for the summer--tell her nobody stays in Florida for the summer. (G)

Yes, indeed :)

>> > Radiation will take a lot out of her and she may get some sun burn
>> like > reaction; the techs and doctor need to help her keep aware of
>> that.

>> Oh she knew about that, being a nurse for so many years. And yes, she
>> was burned. We joked about how she wouldn't have to go for any
>> 'chemical peels' instead of a face lift this year (bg).

> She won't be a-peeling--like a banana?

She's peeling - but not so drastically I guess :)

>> had several tatoo points so I can imagine my mom did as well.

> I had 3 put on; I think that's the basic norm.

Same with her I think, but I'd have to ask.

>> I'm glad I haven't had to have any kind of treatment for anything like
>> cancer.. I know at some point I will have to give in and get an
>> MRI..and I don't want to think about a tatoo and that :(

> You don't need tatoos for MRIs.

hehe.. no, you don't. But you _don't_ want to have an MRI if you have tatoos
from what I've read. No permanent problems, but some swelling I think, etc.

>> > instead of waiting; it saves the worry and anxiety. I wasn't happy
>> with > the idea of more surgery, followed by radiation but went ahead
>> & took > care of it before I had too much time to stew on it.

>> I an understand that one. Kind of.. I mean, I've never had to worry
>> about quite that kind of thing (cancer), but I've lived through
>> watching my Dad have it (lung cancer), and my Mom. You rationalize so

> My parents have both escaped it so far but my paternal grandfather and
> one uncle have had it. Grandfather passed away before I was born, uncle
> when I was 4. It just means I've got to be extra watchful.

Yes, we go for chest X-Rays, and other exams every year.

>> many things away though (I do, at least). Dad was around X-Ray
>> Machines from when they were first invented, there was Asbestos in
>> their basement, and they lived for years without a Radon check in the
>> house where I grew up... and the health dept. wouldn't let a woman
>> rent an upstairs apt. because of the Lead levels in the old house's
>> paint. Hmm.. I should be dead (g)

> Should and are aren't always the same, thankfully.

Really :) that's the truth :)

Take care,
Janis
