We did buy the whole chicken and cut it up ourselves.  Did that again
for a while last spring after we got here too.  Lately tho, we've caught
W-M late afternoon mark downs on some of their rotissrie birds--for
$3.00 each.  We get a couple--one is for eating off of over the next few
days, saving the scraps, etc for soup. The other gets cut in half and
vaccuum sealed for the freezer.  Several more easy do meals there at an
unbeatable price.
