The flight was canceled. Then reinstated. Then cancelled.
Then rereinstated. By which time I'd got changed.

Meal orders were taken front to back, with the result
that by the time she got to row 3, "Sorry - everyone on this
flight is 1K or higher*," and the turkey sandwich was all
that was left. The other choice was the southwest chicken
salad, which I've had and can be good.

The sandwich was okay, decent bread, average deli turkey,
gooey cheese. Chocolate chip cookie on the same tray.

Redtree Cabernet 08 - one of the more mild ineffectual
wines in my experience. At least it didn't taste like
plastic and Jell-O the way most airplane reds do. This
came out on heavy swirling along with some spice, black
pepper, pineapple, and apricot. My seatmate claimed to have
a very sensitive nose and smelled the plastic and Jell-O
from afar. She did prefer the Round Hill Chardonnay, which
is actually an okay wine, as I recall.

Called my buddy East Bay Fisher and had him pick me up so we
could have dinner together.

Fisher came out in his Prius (one of the recalled models) and
took me to Trader Joe's, where we picked up some promising-
looking snacks, such as a bottle of Zapopan tequila (a bit
harsh but with decent agave flavor). We chewed the fat a
while and then went to pick up his wife at Cal, where she
works. Visited for a while, and then I took them to Becky's
Chinese Restaurant, where we had some pretty decent salt-
pepper squid, some quite greasy but tasty eggplant, and a
dry-cooked beef dish that was rather chewy and tasteless.
A mixed bag. Followed by more indulgence in ardent spirits.

[fast forward]
I was heading to the far reaches of gates 88-90, when I heard
a surprised squeal and turned to greet my flight attendant
friend JT, who had just parked her Maui flight and was heading
the other way on the moving walk. I started walking backward
to catch her on the other side and nearly broke my ass at
the end of the walkway. We stopped at the end, no doubt
inconveniencing numerous passengers, and chatted for a
while, but soon it was time for me to board; we promised to
keep in touch.
