=====================
Hi Ruth,

>> Maybe I'll give them a call today.. it's been a little crazy here :)

> Just a little? Seems like that's the norm around here. Tonight about
> 5:30 I realised I needed to pull something together for supper. I
> grabbed a can of diced tomatoes, one of tomato sauce, some pasta, a bit
> of and the last bit of whole wheat panko crumbs from the pantry. From
> the fridge I got out a couple of eggs, flour, the usual Italian herbs, a
> bit each of green bell pepper and onion, provelone and parmisan cheeses

I'd use a good mozzarella if I had it for that.. to my tastes, provelone is a
bit strong (g).. but in a pinch, I'd use whatever I had as well :)

> & the small eggplant we got last week at the farm stand. Other stuff
> included garlic powder, salt & pepper, canola and olive oils. I pulled
> together a quick eggplant parmisan with tubular shaped pasta on the

Sounds very good :) In Middletown NY, Ron and I used to get Eggplant Parmigian
hero sandwiches. I still make them for us if I've got a pan of leftowver
eggplant parmigian. It's so good cold :)

> side. From start to eating was about 75 minutes and there's enough
> eggplant left over for another meal. A few of the slices got a bit over

Now that the work is done in making it, you can enjoy the leftovers (g).

> to brown the eggplant in; the dishwasher got most of the other dishes
> and hand wash ones were minimal.

Today for lunch I made Pizza with pesto, tomato and parmigiana cheese. The
pesto is one I made a few days ago when I found that large bag of Basil in the
freezer.. the 2nd pizza I made had pesto, tomato and leftover sausages from a
pot of sauce I'd made earlier in the week. We only ate the pesto and tomato
and cheese one for lunch today. I think we'll eat the 2nd one for dinner later
(grin).

>> True.. last time we were there they had them though.. Should be
>> getting the car back today or tomorrow :) We better, at least (g).

> They didn't give you a loaner?

No, doubt they have them (g). This isn't a dealership.. it's a small repair
shop in Windsor.

>> > Yes, somebody could really carve up that big old house. Trouble is,
>> it > would only be pretty on the outside then.

>> It was carved up a _lot_ when we bought it.. you could see how easy it
>> would be to return it to a one-family home though. We took out the
>> wall to the other kitchen on the first floor to make that all one
>> living space - it was really just a piece of wallboard behind the door

> Somebody had a limited budget and imagination when the place was made
> into apartments. (G)

I don't know, they seemed to know what they were doing in some places, and
certainly not at all in other ones (grin). I have a feeling the areas that
were done "right" were done by repair/remodeling services or local carpenters..
that kind of thing.

>> that was closed and locked; on the second floor, we opened up the two
>> apartments into one large one for my daughter and her family as well.
>> I think they lived upstairs happily for about 5 years.. then they
>> moved to Ithaca, NY. So... if we wanted to we could become
>> mega-landlords with 3 apartments in this house (g).. NO thanks (g) We
>> thought about selling this huge house and buying a smaller one in
>> Ithaca, but we're not sure about moving there because it _is_ colder
>> there and they get quite a bit more snow than we do here, just an hour
>> away.

> Advantage--close to grandsons and less area to clean.

Yep and yep :)

> Disadvantages--no
> room for a garden, colder weather, more snow, etc, etc.

I've been watching.. there are some houses in the city of Ithaca with actual
acreage (g).. Not a lot as large as ours here in Windsor (it's just over an
acre here) but at least 1/2 acre. That would be about the size of the fenced
in yard here.. You don't see them often, but they show up now and again.

So all we have to hope for would be long warm summers (think not (g)).

> Still, having
> the big house gives you lots of options. Being a live in landlord is no
> fun; ask clean Dave about it. Room to spread all your projects, for
> cats, dogs and grandkids to roam and run--priceless.

That's about how I feel about it :) we think about fixing up a real 'spare
bedroom upstairs as well.. could be handy :) We'll have to wait on that idea
though.. darn car really cleaned us out :(

>> Ok, understand. Those Italian ceramic tiles were finished somewhat,
>> but not colored so I always thought they would be considered 'glazed'.
>> I could be wrong though (grin).

> Any paint is glaze, if it's clear or colored.

Yep, these were a sandstone color (naturally, it seemed) and the glaze was
clear I'd expect.

Take care,
Janis
