That time frame for the warranty was never an issue before Whirlpool took over
making the mixers for the KA brand :(  Before I got my professional, I'd owned
a kitchenaid for over 20 years.  That older one is the one I am currently using
since Ron did replace one of the parts in it.  That older one has a screw-in
bowl so I am not threatened with the problem of the bowl jumping off the mixer
stand or causing the problem again with home ground flour.. Trouble is though,
it's less powerful than the Professional so you can't mix as much bread dough
in it at once.... so I've now gotten used to making less bread dough at one
time.. not such a big deal really.  I can make either one large loaf or two
smaller ones. Given that home made bread doesn't stay as fresh as store-bought
bread, that works well for us.

Understand.  My old Kitchenaid sounds like it growls at slower speeds, but it
does work well otherwise..

From what I've read about the "newer" kitchenaid parts, etc., there is a part
in it that has been replaced with a plastic one in the head of the mixer in the
later or newer models, so you're probably right about what is causing the
rattling.

It's sad.. given the cost of the mixer these days :(  Right now, I'm
contemplating selling the Professional and using that money to get a bosch
mixer that I'll only use for home-ground loaves of bread.  We're a little
strapped for $$ right now, so it will probably be a while though until I do
that :)
