Hi Janis,

JK> > At a point where I can catch up on Fido again. The dress is ready
JK> for a > final fitting & marking the hem on Monday. Tuesday will be a
JK> long day > of sewing so I can give it to the young lady that evening.
JK> She wanted it > fitted sotighitthatIcan'tbreath in the bodice.

JK> Perhaps she is used to really fitted garments..

More fitted than this pattern, apparantly. Anyway, I refitted it on
Monday and put it all together for the final time on Tuesday (about 8
hours of work). She came over Tuesday evening, tried it on (and was
happy), paid me and took the dress. Wedding is tomorrow in MA.

JK> > We decided to gather the
JK> > skirt in back and pin it with a fancy pin instead of taking it off
JK> the > bodice to redo that as well.

JK> I can imagine.. good solution because the bodice reworking with
JK> delicate fabrics would probably have been near to impossible to hide.
 JK> :(

Very true. This fabric might have been able to take one more remake but
the lining was beginning to say "enough already!" so we stopped. In the
time I was waiting before the fitting appointmenton Monday, I was able
to do my usual Monday laundry and make a batch of strawberry jam. (G)

JK> > Good that you found a gp in that area. Does he take veggies in
 JK> barter? > (G)

JK> haha I WISH :) He knows I garden as I've brought in summer squash,
JK> etc. for his staff at times .. but he's never mentioned a barter
 JK> system (g).

Have you ever asked? He might consider it.

>> with him as well. I'd been to a different one in the area when we
>> first moved back to NY, but I wasn't crazy about his attitude in
>> general... nor of his office workers.

JK> > The office workers on the first dr we visited were great! He was
JK> the > one we couldn't tolerate. The one we changed to has office staff
JK> as good > as she is.

JK> This particular office is one of those where you can tell that the
JK> staff is under duress (g).. but I'm glad you were able to find a good
JK> combination there.. that's how our GP's office is.. great staff and
 JK> great doctor.

Makes for the best care that way.

JK> > Yes, that's true. A lot of medical knowledge has only come about
JK> over > the last 15 years or so. The advances of computerised medicine
JK> > made for better research, tests and trials. A lot can be done
JK> virtually > that saves "wear & tear" on anmals and humans alike.

JK> Yes, very true. It is incredible what research is able to accomplish
 JK> with computer models.

But not quite everything. The human factor is a big variable.

>> specialists had to break both her legs and straighten them..
>> naturally, it required a lot of X-Ray proceedures and surgeries. She

JK> > Ouch! I think they do a lot with casting and braces now.

JK> That makes so much sense when you think about the state of braces
JK> these days... though they had to stunt the growth of one of her legs
JK> so that the other one could catch up as well. She was always in casts
 JK> as a small child.

Not fun at all!

JK> > interesting (G) when a pipe from our HI kitchen sink broke and had
JK> to be > replaced--jackhammered up the slab to get to it. It was a
 JK> Priority 1 > job tho.

JK> I bet! going without a kitchen sink is about the pits :) When the
JK> pipes froze in that house in Louisville, it was so horrid waiting for
JK> someone to get there to repair things.

They probably had lots of other customers. (G)

JK> > We took over payments on a double wide mobile home in NC in 1980,
JK> passed > it on to someone else when Steve joined the Army in 83.
 JK> That's the
JK> > closest we've been to being home owners.

JK> Ron's parents never owned a house except for one very early on, they
JK> just didn't believe it was of benefit to them. It worked well for
JK> them and they never minded it at all.

OTOH, my folks have been in the same area for 59 years; the same house
for 53. They just moved across the street.

 JK> > And we're in the south east. (G)

JK> Yes, I know. Well, they don't know everything after all :)

Nope! (G)

JK> > We use the microwave most of the time but if we want to make a pot
JK> of > tea, we'll use a pot and boil the water on the stove in a tea
 JK> kettle.

JK> That's what he does as well, but when I make a pot of tea, I take off
JK> the darn whistle thingy :) :) He says, "I can tell when it boils..
JK> from the sound".. I tell him "I can tell given how long I've been away
 JK> from the pot" (laugh)..

I can tell by the sound but the whistle is nice if I'm doing my usual
multi tasking. I proccessed the jams I made this week in a boiling
water bath so used the tea kettle to top off the water level in my
pressure cooker. Used that as the hot water kettle--a dual purpose pot.
(G)

>> water though; the water stays hotter longer when you use the stove..
>> I'm guessing that temperature difference may make a difference in the
>> flavor when you are steeping tea, but I can't tell (g).

JK> > Probably but more likely, it's the little bit higher heat that
JK> extracts > the essential oils & flavors faster.

JK> Could be.. I wouldn't be surprised. I still would microwave it though
JK> I think.. most of the teas we buy are very flavorful it seems.
