I try to get in every day, but
when I'm working at the ballpark

-> My parents had 5 kids to feed so my mom canned a lot too.  She and Dad

-> things Mom used to can.  Now the garden isn't as big so less produce is
-> going in the freezer or being canned. The freezer is also used for
-> stocking up on bread whenever they get to an outlet store. Frozen juice

We used to do all that too. Now we 
seldom drink juices or soft drinks, mostly
water and tea or coffee (me).

We always had dill, dill hot, sweet, 
and "bread and butter" pickles. We
sometimes had a green tomato relish,
but my dad was not overly fond of it
so we didn't have it often. 
 
-> -> My dad knew because he built the house & converted Mom's kitchen

-> -> gas stove in their rental to electric in the new house.  She wasn't
-> -> thrilled at first with it but is happier with electric than she would be
-> -> with gas.  Also, I think the electric is a little bit safer for her at

->  hn> Mom waited on him hand and foot.

-> So she was really at loose ends at first last year when he passed away.
-> Her life's "job" had ended.

It will be a year on father's day, been a 
VERY rough year for Mom. My youngest
sister's husband passed away on the 14th
of June from bone cancer. He went very
fast and was in a LOT of pain. Mom's still
in Knoxville recovering from her broken hip
and could not make the journey back home
for the funeral.

-> -> same when we lived in Swansboro on the coast.  Our last place there,
-> -> there was a good sized soybean field beside our house. Lots of tobacco

To far north yes...our summers
are drier than yours are.

-> -> Results were good for my folks freezer but bad for my wrist, elbow,

-> That's what I was trying for--and to give them a bit of variety from
-> what they usually eat.  I used some recipes from "Once a Month Cooking"
-> and free lanced a number of my own, in larger than normal quantities.
-> It was intense but it worked.
